Still no word on who will play Batou in Rupert Sanders’ GHOST IN THE SHELL, but we know who he and Motoko Kusanagi (or whatever her name will be) may be hunting down: Sam Riley as The Laughing Man.
The MALEFICENT and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES star is in talks to play the villain in the manga adaptation, a cyberspace hacker with a talent of eluding authorities.
I’m not really too crazy about Riley, who’s been fairly staid and nonplussed in the films I’ve seen him in, but he might be suited to play the mastermind villain role. He’s got a dark intensity to him that could make him a worthy adversary to Johansson’s ass-kicker. Plus, he keeps getting work, so maybe he’ll be able to show off whatever it is that directors and producers like about him so much.
