Where’s Isla Fisher? They keep talking about “The Horsemen.” There were four horsemen. That’s the whole point of the name. You can't keep calling yourself "The Horsemen" unless there's four of you. I feel like Joe Mantegna in AIRHEADS. “‘The Lone Rangers’? There’s three of you. You ain’t exactly lone.”
Oh well. Instead of Fisher and also-absent Melanie Laurent, we got Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Radcliffe joining the rest of the A-listers (plus Dave Franco) in this highly unneeded follow-up to the 2013 original.
The best part of that film were the magic-infused action scenes, and they seem to have doubled down on those here, which is a plus. Jon M. Chu, of G.I. JOE: RETALIATION and JEM notoriety, is directing, and things certainly seem splashier (pun intended) this time around.
The various twists and nonsensical plot turns kept the last film from being anything other than a mildly pleasing diversion, with not one member of the cast being used to his/her full potential (though it was fun to see Common getting pseudo-hypnotized into playing an air violin). Hopefully, we’ll get more Woody/Eisenberg banter (they make a great team), some outlandish misdirection and trickery, and more shitty attempts at magic from Radcliffe.
NOW YOU SEE ME 2 will hopefully have an explanation for Isla Fisher’s absence on June 10th, 2016.
