Linda Hamilton bows out of T3
Hey folks, Harry here.... seems that Linda Hamilton is officially smarter than Arnold and Mr Furlong... as she's bowed out of the dog-script called T3... at least according to the rumors coming out of THE ARNOLD FAN as reported by AB King. Folks, the script for this that they have is SUBPAR to an extreme... it is a complete waste of Arnold's time... he should be working on DOC SAVAGE, KING CONAN, CRUSADE or WITH WINGS AS EAGLES.... he needs to defer his salary and MAKE THIS HAPPEN. We don't need more bad Arnie... we need fantastic action films with intelligent scripts and filmmakers at the helm. Otherwise, he needs to let go of these properties so they can be made with talent that can recognize where their talent is best needed. Sigh.... here we go...
Harry,
Bad news for TERMINATOR fans all over the world. THE ARNOLD FAN reported
this bad news (note, the news was originally reported at Internet Movie Data
Base):
Actress Linda Hamilton has pulled out of Terminator 3 (2002). Arnold
Schwarzenegger and Edward Furlong have signed up for the second sci-fi
sequel, but Hamilton feels she's had enough of the role of a mom trying to
save the planet from robots.
She says, "I was asked. I turned it down. I felt it was more courageous not
to do it. I spent nine years trying to get the image of my Terminator
character out of people's minds. I'm tired of being ever-earnest and
stricken."
Instead, Hamilton has signed up to take to the Los Angeles stage in a
revival of haunting romantic mystery "Laura" at the Tiffany Theater and she
admits she's terrified. She adds, "I go home and burst into tears. We've
been rehearsing for four weeks and it feels like forever."

Yeah, quite courageous for saying no, Linda, concidering that character gave you everything that you would ever have. The least you could do would be to pay back the franchise that put you on the map. And I wouldn't mind seeing you kick @$$ again on-screeen. So what's next? I heard on CA that the chick from Happy Gilmore is up for a role? For the love of God no....
-
Who knows, maybe Ridley could whip this property back into shape. I'm going to see Arnold here in L.A. at the Sci-Fi/comic book convention on the 12th of November. Hopefully there will be a Q&A session (there usually is) and I can ask him about T3's rumored director. Anybody out there have some good questions they would like me to ask?
-
.......she's already got half of Cameron's dough! No need to embarrass herself further with this Sarah Connor business. Smart girl.
-
I think the Terminator ride at Universal is just a taste of what this movie could be. A lead in Laura, a fantastic flic, is by no means lessened by the fact that it's on stage rather than on a big screen. if Linda wants to preserve some film integrity than by all means she should.
-
Cigarmunching, over-the-hill Republican cartoon character Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't made a solid movie since "True Lies" and everyone knows it. Linda's definitely smart to stay clear of what will only taint the quality of "T2". Plus she probably wants nothing to do with James Cameron's franchise since the schmuck left her for Suzy Amis from "Titanic."
...PREDATOR FOR PRESIDENT!!! -
C'mon, lads. Mysterio reviewed the script about a month ago and liked it quite a lot as I remember. There is still hope. Unless those rumours about Linda Hamiltons twin sister were true...

if arnold does not do this, he will become a joke a la van damme.

I'm only 18, but I think I've got the perfect idea for another T
by kyle.reese
and it doesn't need Mrs ex-Cameron. And I even reckon we got trim Schwarzenegger's role so he doesn't embarress himself by opening his mouth. It should be set on the eve of the nuclear holocaust and in the lengthy intro we should witness the end of the world. Then we follow the life of a young orphan who scurries around the ruins of the old world and avoids mysterious machines that seem to be taking all the remaining humans off one by one. Eventually however the boy is captured and forced into slave work inside huge factories. There he sees the horrors of the machines. Bodies piled up, those who don't work are killed instantly etc. Then one day rumours spread about a man who plans to free the people. But no one knows what he looks like. He could be any of the slaves. The boy watches as revolution breaks and the people "smash those metal mother fuckers into junk". The humans escape after a cool action chase but almost half of the humans are left in the camps. The man known as John Connor (still never seen) gathers the courage in the survivors to go back for the others. And eventually they do, however little do they know that an infilitarator terminator (Schwarzenegger) silently observes their plans. The finale is an epic one. The camps are raided, but the resistance is met with early model terminators (rubber-skinned) and are ambushed. In a MAD MAX style road chase, the humans flee but are hotly persued by HKs and those tank machines, along with Terminators (who spring up randomly because people aren't sure who they are). In the end, the reisstance successfully escape, but through the chase almost half are killed. And that is only the beginning. The mysterious leader plans that mankind will overthrow the machines, and the boy watches in the crowd, willing to die for the saviour.
What do you think?
Basically, it's Spartacus with robots, but it can work... Ooh and the boy happens to be Kyle Reese. -

I would write it, but I've got other better (more original) idea
by kyle.reese
...than a Terminator script. I just thought it would be a good story to show the nightmare that is post-nuclear Earth and delve into the world Kyle Reese was talking about to Sarah Connor under the bridge. The trouble with Hollywood is that they're gonna want to celebrate Schwarzenegger's machoness and stick dozens of rock bands into the soundtrack so it makes lots of cash. I've read the T3 script (or are there several?) and found it to be the silliest thing I've read since Harry's review of Charlies Angels. I mean the ending is ridiculous. It's trying to have a cool twist like the original but it doesn't work. There's an intriguing backstory waiting to be explored and that's through the traumatised life of Reese. It could be a dark film taking us into a very haunting future.

...turn off the machines, zip up the bag and call the coroner-cause this dog is DEAD.
-
you only have to look at the poster for The Sixth Day...OH DEAR. He just isn't popular enough anymore, so he isn't going to be able to attract the great directors he NEEDS to make his films any good. I think HE should direct T3...
-
...as this movie will single-handedly attempt to ruin one of my most beloved franchises of all time. Just as the Alien series was run into the ground (sorry Fincher fans, I thought Alien 3 sucked major ass), this will be another lame attempt to follow a James Cameron masterpiece and fail miserably. I also think it shows that Arnold is now officially a has-been; he's obviously taking a role in a film with an alleged shit script in an obvious attempt to get some popularity again. Well, Ms. Hamilton, I applaud your decision if tis true. And to the studio green-lighting this Cameron-less piece of shit--you really don't have a clue, do you? And so many people see it who don't work in the industry...so sad...McFly<--
-
This tale got overtold with the second one. The Matrix took the Terminator idea in the only interesting direction it could have gone. There are too many cool scripts out there to be made to waste time and effort on this dead horse.

by heywoodfloyd
arnie's inability to adapt what he does to the market place which has changed so drastically since he hit it big in the reagan 80's is truly pathetic to watch. even the ad campaigns are indistinguishable from each other. whoever made the comparison to van damme might actually be insulting van damme at this point, and whoever suggested that he should direct--well, that would be a 100% guarantee of never hearing from him again. the terminator movies occuppied a period of time between star wars and the matrix, and that window has closed. thankfully, that asshole 'king of the world' comment at the academy awards a few years ago looks like it's gonna come back and bite cameron on the ass--first with his crappy tv series, and now with the disintegration of the franchise that put him on the map. congratulations to hamilton for saving face and bowing out in an attempt avoid a nurse ratchet style type casting, but what is she going to do--dinner theater in anahiem? if she really wants people to forget about her as sarah connor, then she needs to work more.
-
It's more interesting than this T3 script I've read. And as for me being a kid, well it's the youth of today who'll make the next generation of Terminators and Matrixs. So if your gonna critisise at least say something constructive and longer than a sentence.
-
i just didn't dig it either reese. this idea doesn't sound like a movie, it sounds like a cheap TV series or the Terminator 3D at orlando. why would machines want humans to work in factories anyways, it's a waste of time, humans are animate workers and machines are thus in-animate. ....machines, if they were smart enough, should just holocost the people in case of counter revolution. ....but before this would all happen, they would keep trying at that time travel thingy until they get it right, this has enough "what-ifs" as the "frequency" ending. but hey, i liked frequency, even with all those "but...why didn't he just?..." questions.
-
Granted, what Kyle wrote needs alot of work. But the concept is there. The movie should be a prequal about the war and not about time travel. The concept of robots going into the past to kill this future leader has been done twice. It should be something completely different.

Neither Arnold's nor especially Linda's career is going great la
by fatal discharge
What's the last thing anyone saw Linda in? The great film (sarcasm) Dante's Peak back in 97. If she doesn't want this role then I guess she doesn't want a career. As for Arnold, his films since True Lies in 94 have been mediocre at best which only confirms my notion of his films only being as good as their directors regardless of his presence. He's not an actor and has very limited capacities but even Clint Eastwood showed he could change as he got older so maybe there's hope for Arnold (but I somehow doubt it).
-
Call me crazy, but I think Kyle's concept was great. Have you written other scripts before? Working on any now? Doing the film school thing? I'm 19 and just wondering.
-
People seem to be hoping that Ridley Scott will be directing this one. I just have to say I kind of hope not. I love Gladiator and all, but he's made a lot of crap lately. G.I. Jane is a rather good example and White Squal was something that could of been a whole lot better. The man has talent but he gets far to much attention. The funny thing is Jodie Foster dropped out of Hannibal and then Ridley Scott signed on. Now it looks as if the same thing could happen with T3. What, they lose a main actor and add Scott hoping to make the film look pretty and have us overlook the rest. I say go for Fincher. Don't worry McFly, no one takes offense to your comment considering I also agree. But it was his directorial debut and to I completely overlook it. With his vision and his style from Se7en, The Game, and Fight Club I think he's the best stylistic director out there right now (can't speak on Darren Aronfonsky since I haven't seen Requiem for a Dream yet). Fincher could at least bring some depth into the film that is constantly missing from Ridley Scott's films. Gladiator might be one of the best films of the year just how Fight Club was one of the best from last year, but comparing the two makes it rather obvious to me that Fincher is far ahead of Scott in many levels. Of course they aren't really films to compare, but the style of the directors is there. And for a movie about the end of humans, the start of cyborgs, and the hope for survival, Fincher's dark style would seem more appropriate to me.

After Arnold delivers the goods with his old school ways with THE 6TH DAY (that's the real word going around --Arnie delivers TRUE LIES type fun--so don't say I haven't seen this film yet but I like it already) and hopefully next summers thriller COLLATERAL DAMAGE (I'm waiting for some trailer footage on this one before I say anything) he should make the films Harry Knowles mentioned in his post above: DOC SAVAGE, KING CONAN, CRUSADE and WITH WINGS AS EAGLES. Harry also forgot TRUE LIES 2 which should be a blast with Cameron going back to basics and delivering FUN and never before seen action scenes. These future Arnold films have great talent attached already and I hope the ones that don't gets great talent attached. DOC SAVAGE has Frank Darabont and Chuck "high octane action man of fun popcorn film ERASER" Russell, KING CONAN has the Walchowski Brothers and John Milius, CRUSADE has no one yet but here's hopeing Paul Verhoeven jumps back on to this film when he see's the new script or Arnold get Cameron or McTiernan to do his pet project, WITH WINGS AS EAGLES should definetly be directed by one of the three Arnie directors I've mentioned (Cameron, McTiernan or Verhoeven) and last but not least TRUE LIES 2, which is James "The Man" Cameron going back to blowing things up and inventing some high octane stunts that make spy flicks KICK ASS (see Charlie's Angels). Arnold, make these films after TERMINATOR 3 (which I hope gets a great director and hopefully Linda Hamilton will see that she's WRONG and signs back to play Sahra Conner).
-
I believe Kyle Reese has the right idea, at least in its setting. T3 should take place in the post apocalyptic future. I mean, isn't it more interesting visually to explore this world than to travel back in time yet again. The movie should begin by stating how the characters forgot to get rid of a piece of evidence in T2. They should show a quick flashback of arnie's arm that was ripped off in the factory. Judgment Day occurs and the rest of the movie is from the point of view of a group of human fighters(including Kyle Reese)who must battle hordes of T-800's and T-1000's running around. And they could even throw in a new Terminator model for good measure.
-
I think we can say that Sarah Connor and the rest was able to stop the Judgement Day, 08/31/1997 that is. But just because they did stop the war once doesn't mean it can't happen again, let's say 30 years later in the future. That's a long time for a fast developing world.
This time no time travel - we would follow a man witnessing the rise of the machines. John Connor.
This way we accomplish many things.
1. We get rid of Arnold.
2. John Connor have grown up. No need for James Furlong.
3. The plot holes involving time-travel could be avoided.
4. We get to see more of the dark future, putting some originality in the script.
We need a good director, probably one with a dark vision, like David Fincher.

So mysterio said the T3 script was great and then fat harry calls it a dog. Personally i dont trust anyone who raves about blair witch 2 and enjoyed armageddon. I never trust this site anymore, i wait till i see something my self.

You guys are mostly applauding Hamilton's decision to not be a part of a lame project, yet Jodie Foster received virtually NO support after abandoning Hannibal. Let's refresh our memories here: Hannibal was a book that had FEW admirers. Apparently the screenplay wasn't much better (we'll see if that's true next year). Jodie decided against being in this film (which essentially reduced her main character to a supporting role, whereas Lector's role is now the focus of the story) in order to direct a period piece about circus freaks with Russell Crowe. Hmmm...something tells me she made the right decision. I applaud Hamilton's move, but I just don't understand why an actual artist gets criticized for doing the same thing (with an arguably better incentive to leave). Then again, hypocrisy among film geeks shouldn't be much of a surprise...
-
Don`t make it.
-
The reason Linda Hamilton is understood is because James Cameron dropped out of the writing/directing slot - which automatically kills the franchise. The reason Jodie Foster isn't understood is because there is a lot of great talent involved all around Hannibal. I'm not a real fan of Ridley Scott but if Anthony Hopkins and Thomas Harris were involved, that's more than enough of a good reason for her to join on. You can't say the same about Arnold obviously, for he is no Hopkins. And no one cares about Edward Furlong returning. I don't know, that is strictly my opinion and some may disagree.
-
Its starred Gene Tierney, Clifton Webb, Vincent Price and one of the coolest actors to grace the screen, Dana Andrews as "Detective McPherson." Hey, if Linda wants to count her Cameron cash on stage, be my guest. She double-earned it! The story to write for T-3 would be where the battle between man and machines is taking place and at the end Connor sends Reese back into time. That way you get the full circle. You don't need Hamilton or Furlong, but you do need Arnie. He could be a friend of Connor's who gets killed. The machines see this as a way of getting into the basecamp. Build up another Arnie as a test. It fails when the human army attacks the enemy basecamp where the time machine is. Reese goes through. Arnie goes after Reese, then they blow up the base. Conner stands there at the end looking at his past/present/future destiny. This storyline is copyrighted by me anyway.
-
people would have a lot easier time associating linda hamilton with a different character if SHE MADE ANY OTHER DECENT FREAKIN' MOVIES. what has she done since T2? Dante's Peak? oooooooooh. for all the crap she's made, T3 should sound like a damn godsend. in any case, if she's gone, my expectations for the movie is lowered even more.
-
I compliment her on her choice to back out. Not because of the script, but because of typcasting. Anyone remember that SNL skit when T2 came out where she was being hunted by everyone in town because she was the "toughest chick"?

I don't necessarily agree with your idea of T3 (namely, making Kyle Reese the focus) but stick to your guns. A lot of the dweebs on this sight get their kicks from knocking people- after all, there too scared to stand up to their boss so they've got to get their frustrations out somehow. At least you've got a specific approach to the film.
-
Skynat ceased to exist as it was stopped in the past in T2,The machines were all destroyed,So how can they be another sequel.
W/ ending as definitive as T2 everything about this film points to a compleat cash-in.
Dont get me wrong im a big Arnie fan and i grew up on these movies but this will suck.
Well done Linda Hamilton for turning this down and Jim Cameron for that matter.
Now Alien 5 anyone. -
. . .personally I think T3 is just a bad idea all the way around, but your concept is probably better then what we'll actually see on the big screen. Ignore losers like MalwynOY2k, by the way, they're just assholes who like to flame people for no reason--i.e., the sort of single-helix 'tards who've made USENET what it is today. Oh, and kudos to Linda Hamilton for avoiding this festering mound of footage. Doing bit-part dinner theater in Podunk, USA is FAR more dignified an occupation then a starring role in what will likely be the next BATTLEFIELD EARTH.
-
I have a quick question...what use would the machines have for humans? Why would they need them to do slave labor? If they were smarter and strong enough to overthrow humans then I'm sure they wouldn't need to keep people around to do their work for them. Unless the robots were lazy and I don't think that would be or could be the case. Don't get me wrong, its a pretty good idea but I just doubt the machines would need humans to do their work.....
-
No cameron, no Hamilton, no interest as far as I'm concerned.
-
Some people are suggesting that Linda Hamilton needs to save her career. Here's a thought: how would you like to be doing the same thing over and over for sixteen years? She's probably got a bit of "been there, done that, moving on" going on here. She doesn't owe the franchise anything. She's paid her dues. This whole project smells of cashing in on past glories (and not even the producers' own, but of someone else's). I don't see reason to criticise if she's the only one that wants nothing of that. The way some people talk, you'd think actors must never switch careers like the rest of us do. As to casting her twin sister, that would be a new low, seeing as, AFAIK, her sister isn't even an actress. (I believe she's a nurse.) Notice how Leslie isn't in a speaking role or even on screen for more than, what, 15 seconds? But, hey, let them do it. It would make this movie *perfect*. :-)
-
no loss
-
Why don't the studio's put some effort into bringing back frachises that still have some life in them? Examples: Young Guns 3, Flatliners 2, Rocky 7, Ferris Buellers Day Off 2: all these have so much potential and it would make much more sense to bring them to the silver screen rather than flogging a dead horse like the Terminater saga.

...you keep getting worked up about humans being forced to work in slave camps, but if you bother to watch The Terminator you'll notice that in the carpark scene were Reese explains events to come he say; "Most of us were put in camps for orderly disposable but some of us were kept alive to work - loading bodies. The disposable units ran night and day". Many humans were executed but not all, Reese wouldn't be alive if that was the case. I'd just like to say that that little idea was concieved in only one day but I bet anything that Hollywood will screw this movie up without fail. I'm only at college but the people in my class have passion for the work we do, the trouble with Schwarzenegger, Vajna and Kassar is that this film is only being made to make cash. So they'll throw in all the effects at their disposal and forget that a good film always begins with an amazinf script. The T3 script I read is not going to deliver. Oh, and Jet, I write screenplays as a hobby, so if you wanna read more of my work feel free to ask.

You may not like the idea of another Terminator movie, but I do. If you think that the Matrix has exploited the idea of people/robots relations than you have a very poor imagination. If you don't trust Edward Furlong's acting abilities, you should look around and you'll see that he's one of the few actors that can act compared to the mass of "hot newcomers". So what if Linda Hamilton won't do the movie. A grown up John Connor won't need his mother's help to save the world. Big deal if another actress play Sarah Connor. If people liked the crappy Blair Witch Project, there's no way they won't like T3.
-
Everyone laughed at Keanu Reeves when he refused to do Speed 2. Now it looks like his best career move until signing on to THe Matrix. I think that next year, we'll be congratulating Jodie Foster for steering clear of an abortion called "Hannibal" and the year after that we'll be patting Ms. Hamilton on the back for her canny career planning. Oh, and Hitchcock did not direct "Laura." You're thinking of "Rebecca."
-
What about Almen Wong (from "Her Name is Cat")? I know "Her Name is Cat" wasn't the greatest movie ever, but Almen has an imposing physique and definite screen charisma. Plus, in "Hollywood East" there's a quote from her saying she'd love to play a female terminator. I realize this isn't completely on topic, but if Almen was a female terminator, I really wouldn't miss Linda Hamilton.
-
1) where can I read this supposedly awful T3 script?
2)what the hell is up with today's Harry picture? are those scary hands ripping him apart from a film? I think I'm going to have nightmares. -
...and that film DID give me nightmares as a kid. I'd lie awake in bed at night, scaring the hell out of myself as I planned for a hypothetical zombie attack on my house. I figured I could hide out in the closet and the notoriously slow-witted undead wouldn't figure it out...but how long could I hold out? I'd have to peek out within a day or two, and WHAT IF THE ZOMBIES WERE STILL THERE?! Truly a terrifying childhood. Good film though, superior to "Night of the Living Dead" in this man's opinion. I still revisit it on occasion...and make plans...
