Today in Stupid Fucking Remake News, AMBI Pictures will be producing a remake of Christopher Nolan's incredible breakout film, MEMENTO.
Yes, you heard me correctly. As THR reports, they are remaking MEMENTO. A film that isn't really that old, that still stands on its own two tattooed legs, that is still just as incredible and enjoyed and not-forgotten as the day it came out.
Why, you may ask? I have no fucking idea. I have no idea what could possible be changed or done differently or how they have any hope of bringing anything new to the table on this one.
Even the AMBI head Monika Bacardi doesn't even seem to know what a remake can bring to the story:
“Memento is a masterpiece that leaves audiences guessing not just throughout the film, but long after as well, which is a testament to its daring approach. We intend to stay true to Christopher Nolan’s vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original."
I like to try to give every idea a chance, but I'm really having trouble seeing exactly why this is necessary. MEMENTO is one of my favorite Nolan films - it is intriguing, it hooks you, it keeps you guessing, and is incredibly complex and tight in its sturcture and presentation. I just don't see the point. Maybe I'll be proven wrong as the project moves forward, but I do wonder how you can possibly hope to improve upon perfection.
