Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Paddington was a very pleasant surprise. It's the kind of great family film we really only expect from Pixar these days, filled with heart, humor and just enough slyly dark comedy to get the parents laughing as much as their kids.
It shouldn't be much of a surprise since Harry Potter producer David Heyman spearheaded this particular film and now he's planning on a franchise, thanks largely to the critical and commercial success that can come when you actually make a good family movie.
Deadline reports that Heyman has successfully courted the first film's writer/director Paul King back for the sequel. This is fine news for anybody with kids or anybody that, you know, likes good movies.
I know my own nephews freaked out for this one when we watched it. They couldn't get enough of the uptight dad being hit on while in disguise as a cleaning lady. It takes a special touch to take a tired trope like that and make it work, so it's good to know that touch is coming back for round 2.
