PARANORMAN director Sam Fell's next stars Asa Butterfield as a teenage grim reaper alongside Jemaine Clement and Gillian Anderson!

FLUSHED AWAY/PARANORMAN director Sam Fell is heading into the realm of live-action for a dark, interesting-sounding project called CROAK.

The film, originally called TEEN REAPER, is about a youthful-looking Death who is conflicted between the afterlife he reports to and the mortal world he polices. To play the reaper, Fell originally had PARANORMAN himself, Kodi Smit-McPhee, attached, but he’s been replaced by HUGO/ENDER’S GAME star (and former SPIDER-MAN contender) Asa Butterfield. Jemaine Clement, Stanley Tucci, and Gillian Anderson will co-star in the film in unspecified roles.

PARANORMAN was a family film that was fixated on death, zombies, and witchcraft, yet balanced those elements into something that was accessible and fun without being goofy or condescending. Fell can certainly spin something together with that premise and cast, and I’m looking forward to seeing Butterfield’s take on the Grim Reaper.

But no way he’ll have anything on Sadler.
