This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Samurai, Dystopian Futures, and Creatures Galore!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's selection of fun films I think you folks will enjoy. My goal each week is to showcase new talents from all over the globe, bringing them into your homes for you to watch at your leisure, something new that Netflix can't give you. With technology getting cheaper and cheaper, it's so incredibly cool to see all the different visions out there, different angles on the same basic stories that are ingrained in us all. The more people who create, the more badass stories we get - I love that. You could totally say "Sure, but then you also get a heaping serving of terrible films!" I look at movies I don't dig as filmmakers in progress, people who've not yet unlocked what they are capable of. So yeah, I eagerly await new films each time I open my email, each time with a hope of finding something special, something unique that I can share with you all. This week I've got an incredible lineup that encompasses the spirit of SATURDAY SHORTS and reminds me why week after week I'm drawn back to sitting at a computer and doing what I can to showcase incredible talent. I'm totally aware that my tastes are slightly unique and each week might not align with what you're into, but if you walk away having enjoyed something you might not have otherwise - then it's all worth it.

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

BOBBY & THE SAMURAI

TRT: 6:52

First up we have a film from the ever so talented Tom S. Hammock, Brian Udovich, and Justin Duprie. It's a simple tale that is sure to put a smile on your face. It's short, sweet, and direct - my kind of short, filled with gorgeous images from Cinematographer Tarin Anderson (who's work is also featured in SOUTHBOUND). So without further ado, let's jump on in to a fairytale of a short.

THE PALE MOONLIGHT

TRT: 16:36

Australian Writer-Director Tin Pang has our next film, a film noir science fiction mash up of dystopian fun! "Set in a dystopian future where the world is dying from a crippling disease, a mysterious figure visits an illegal drug den in the hope of sourcing a rumoured cure, but unwittingly gets caught up in a robbery that could threaten his chances of making it back out alive..." If you are curious about the design of the film or want to get a more in depth idea of who all put their skills into creating this film, then by all means head over to the movie's website where you'll find all sorts of good info on the movie.

SECTOR ZERO 4

TRT: 5:17

Special thanks to filmmaker Fernando J. Martínez for sending our next film my way! Director Alfonso Garcia and GeoFilms have our next film, a lovely mash up of "found footage" style stoytelling mixed with a bizarre as hell experience. "Melissa Baquer is driving on the wrong way when she requests to the Computer Emergency Center to route her vehicle via GPS. During the call will suffer an accident."

SINGULARITY

TRT: 3:34

Director Marissa Maghavipata has our next film, with slick visual effects by Benni Diez, a fanciful three minute fairytale full of curiosity and beauty.

VALENTINE SURPRISE

TRT: 6:03

To wrap us out we have a film from Matt Mercer and Rubric Pictures. It's nicely shot, methodically cut, and ends with a massive thunk! You might have caught Matt before as he primarily acts. Just check out the guy's IMDB page for more info on what he's up to! (Thanks to Lady Leigh for putting this film on my radar!)

BAM! THat's it for this week, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you caught a film here that rocked your hyperbolic world! I'm thrilled with this week's selection and want to shoot a giant "thank you" to the filmmakers above. I'm abolsutely on the hunt for more films to screen, so if you've got something - email me at Mike@aintitcool.com. Don't be a stranger. Until next week, feel free to click on any of the links below to visit past columns, each with their own hidden gems.

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
