Adaptation of R.L. Stine's Fear Street Series Heading Our Way!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

As GOOSEBUMPS gets ready to hit theaters, fans of author R. L. Stine may have another adaptation to look forward to in the future. According to The Wrap, Stine has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment to bring a film version of the Fear Street series to the big screen.

Stine ruled YA books in the 90s, and a lot of us grew up on his Goosebumps series. I was the chunk of the generation that gravitated toward the Fear Street novels. I was a little old for Goosebumps when they hit, but Fear Street was right up my alley. It also provided the perfect bridge between the Nancy Drew books that I had been reading in grade school, and the Stephen King novels that I would grow to love in high school.

Fear Street was a bit more violent than Goosebumps, and focused more on real-world mysteries than it did on supernatural occurances. It took place in Shadyside, Ohio, which is also the most fucked up, murder-happy place on the planet. But the kills got pretty damn creative and the stories never skimped on suspense. There was also a decent amount of making out, if I recall correctly, which was pretty cool for 7th grade me.

Stine is be pretty tight-lipped about the details, but he did confirm that the project is in development:

"I'm not allowed to say, but yeah, there is something happening. I'm usually a loose cannon, but they really don't want me talking about it."

No details as to which books are being considered for the adaptation, but I say go with the Cheerleader trilogy - it's the best of the best and a ton of fun. What do you guys think? Any favorites you might like to see included?
