I am – Hercules!!

The Leftovers 2.1 FAQ

What’s it called?
“Axis Mundi.”

Who’s responsible?
Teleplay is credited to Damon Lindelof (“Cowboys & Aliens,” “Prometheus,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “World War Z,” “Tomorrowland”) & Jacqueline Hoyt (“The Defenders,” “The Good Wife”).

What says HBO?
“Jarden, Texas was renamed “Miracle” after it was discovered that no one had departed. The town has since become a magnet for tourists and people who are convinced it is special and can keep them safe. Among the local families is the Murphys: the father, John (Kevin Carroll), the mother, Erika (Regina King), and their twins, Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Michael (Jovan Adepo). While trying to protect his town from frauds and charlatans, John gets an ominous warning from a man who claims to have psychic powers. Soon afterwards, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) and Jill Garvey (Margaret Qualley) show up in Miracle. This newly formed “family” left Mapleton to start over, but Kevin cannot seem to escape his past. The Murphy family and Kevin subsequently experience a mysterious event that will that change their lives forever.”

A hint regarding the “mysterious event”?
It involves water.

The past Kevin cannot “escape”? Is it just the ghost of the fat Guilty Remnant lady or is there more to it?
Fat Guilty Remnant Lady does not appear this week. I’m not sure what the logline means with regard to Kevin’s inability to escape his past.

Does the episode open with a flashback?
I’m saying yes.

How does it start?
Strangely! Expect the first 10 minutes to be Garvey-free, and filled instead with fire, skin, urination, death, labor, sucking, eggs and a snake. And then teen girls cavorting in bikinis.

Where Is The Scott Glenn character?
Kevin’s dad is not around this week.

Where is the Amy Brenneman character?
Kevin’s ex is not around this week.

Where Is The Liv Tyler character?
Guilty Remnant Rookie is not around this week. There are a bunch of actors listed in the credits who don’t actually show up in the episode.

The big news?
You won’t see any characters from last season until 37 minutes into the hour. And the first two are not named Garvey or Durst.

Minute 37? When does an actual Garvey show up?
Minute 45.

What else is HBO not telling us?
The ending of this episode holds great promise.

What’s good?
The prologue. The glass over the crack. The copious woodland nudity. The disposal. “Enrique!” “Was she adopted?” “Oh, that’s none of our business.”

What’s not so good?
Were I John, I would have sought details from The Hand Guy. And I harbor doubt that three sane firemen would think what they were doing was a really good idea.

How does it end, spoiler boy?
“Evie!”

9 p.m. Sunday. HBO.
