ASSASSIN'S CREED lands some more Oscar-pedigree talent!

It’s almost like ASSASSIN’S CREED might actually be happening.

Oscar winner Jeremy Irons and Golden Globe/BAFTA nominee Brendan Gleeson have joined the cast of Justin Kurzel’s adaptation. All we know about their characters is that Irons will play the father of Marion Cotillard’s character (possibly a royal?) while Gleeson will play the father of Fassbender’s Callum Lynch, presumably while he’s in the persona of his 15th century Spanish ancestor.

Aside from both being well-known European actors, both Irons and Gleeson have a certain pedigree that helps contribute to the increasingly impressive cast & crew credits on this thing. Kurzel, Fass, & co.  are obviously making a huge effort to distinguish this from the more schlocky, bargain-bin video game adaptations out there, and even if these actors didn’t exactly pack ‘em in for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS or THE RAVEN, their presence certainly adds a little bit of clout and class to this production.

This is sounding less and less like any video game flick we’ve seen to date, and I’m fascinated to see what becomes of it. Could this be the film that finally shows the potential in quality for a game-to-film adaptation?

Come on, ASSASSIN’S CREED on December 21st, 2016.
