TOMB RAIDER, DR ZHIVAGO, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and THE CONFORMIST!!!
Ahhhh, Harry here in Los Angeles... about an hour away from going on Ben Stein's talk show, and I stumbled across the TOMB RAIDER website, which actually seems to be up to something pretty good. First off, it looks like they'll be bring a piece of production art or a still from the set every week, on up to release... they have a lot of sections with a... pretty decent amount of beginning info in place. NO SHOT OF LARA THOUGH... Now... I'm sure you are confused as a monkey in an orchard about the title of this story.... But, ya see... over at this new site there's an interview with director Simon West where he was asked what movies has he taken inspiration from for the making of TOMB RAIDER. And apparently from out of his mouth came.... DR ZHIVAGO, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and THE CONFORMIST.
Now, don't get me wrong... I'd love to in some bizarre abstract way like to think that perhaps TOMB RAIDER could be mentioned in a sentence with those movies... but... hmmmm.... we'll see. I'm sure in the first two he is talking about the scope and grandeur of the palatte with which the film is shot... I've heard that TOMB RAIDER is to be shot on a very grand scale, and I really and truly do hope that the resulting film will have that epic feel to it, but... a video game movie influenced by David Lean? Hmmmmmm.... As for THE CONFORMIST... I swear if this film has any relation to this film or its surrealist noir tones... I'll fall in love. Now... if he mixes in just a tad of the sense of adventure from RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.... and the acting and score and effects all come together.... maybe, just maybe this'll be that baked potato with all da fixings.... Haven't eaten yet today... sorry... Well, I have to go... Talk at you later...

Speak to your dealer about the quality of your JUNK. ANY movie can be more than halfway decent if it's done right.

Harry on Ben Stein. I finally get to hear the jiggle of his lard and his call! FFFFFFNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe a quality film can be made from any source material, playstation games included. As a premise, the "Tomb Raider" series holds considerable potential...if Paramount has assembled a creative team that can reach it they are sitting on a gold mine. Simon West's resume doesn't exactly instill confidence, but I like what I'm hearing about the script...and of course Angelina is absolutely PERFECT for the role.

I don't know what's worse, hearing "Tomb Raider" in the same sentence as those other films, or hearing the words "Simon West" in the same sentence as those other films.

Sounds like SOMEones never been first and he's begun to take it out on others. Never seen the beauty of a clear tb. Raced to the tb posting machine and waited in anticipation of fellow tber's realising he's better than them. :)

It's "Tomb Raider", people! As my director always says when I'm doing a comedy, "It ain't Chekhov, folks". And it's not. This is supposed to be mindless, escapist fantasy. You want to put an epic scope on it? Fine. But the audiences ain't gonna notice. They're there to look at Angelina Jolie's breasts and watch her shoot some bad guys. And comparing it to "The Conformist" is utter garbage. If the script is really that good, and it's based off of a video game, then Warner Bros. can hire me to do the next Mario Bros. movie. I'll make it an existential search for meaning in a bizarre, surreal nightmare world. To be directed by Darren Aronofsky. Jeely Kly....

Thank You. I have been first twice before. I was referring to the people who write an obnoxious FIRST when they are actually 4th or 5th. How rude of you to call me an idiot! I guess with an email like jello you're not going to be Angelina Jolies butt-double anytime soon?

You might wanna ask Richard O'Brien that question...

Thanks Harry, for making me think this article was going to be about the theatrical re-release of some David Lean classics and Bertolucci's forgotten masterpiece. While some drool over The Last Emperor or Last Tango in Paris (containing the greatest acting performance in film history compliments of M. Brando), The Conformist may very well be the best photographed color film ever. Storaro hadn't even hit his stride yet, but for some reason, the whole Italian art deco design combined with the color scheme just adds up to cinematographic heaven. Easily the most luscious footage these eyes have seen. This one's definitely out of print; I've seen it once at a video store. But the Visions of Light documentary took a decent amount of time discussing this one. See it if you can.

I just hope Tomb Raider is heavily influenced by any cinematic masterpiece that shows a lot of TITTIES!!!!!

I hope West throws in adventure from the Last Crusade since THAT one was the best of the three.

There is only so far a good set of T&A can take a film. If T&A alone could carry a film, then that horrific Cindy Crawford/Bill Baldwin adventure flick from a few years back would have been a hit. The only twist they could add would for be for Jolie to use the "secret weapon": She could squeez her grotesque collagen injected hips until they explode, dousing the enemy in a hail of of toxic ass-fat, rendering them temporarily blinded, allowing her time to escape.

It's pretty funny how in the same board, full of a reletavely homogeneous bunch of folks, how there can be so much diversity on the subject of T&A. It's funny how the board can turn from people tired of the way entertainment exploits women and their 'attributes' to a bunch of disgusting wolves (actually quite an insult to our furry friends, but hey, it's a saying). Wonder no more why drivel gets made. Now I'd like to think the more refined of the bunch can control themselves. I'm certainly not saying I don't -enjoy- the sight of a beautiful female form, I'm programmed to, and, I do. But I am glad I am not a lascivious pig about it. Show some respect gentlemen.
