Hey folks, Harry here... Just got the great news that AICN has got a chance to give away one of these magical feeling BB-8's from SPHERO. I didn't have the instant visceral dislike to BB-8 when that first STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS teaser hit... but it did look like what would only make sense as a CG robot... cuz... like... how else? Then... They brought BB-8 out onto that stage with R2-D2... and our collective minds were blown.
So what do we know about BB-8? Well in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, he's the loyal Astromech Droid of Oscar Isaac's POE DAMERON. We know we'll see BB-8 on Jakku and in Poe's X-Wing... We know BB-8 rolls around the Millennium Falcon. But we don't really know his noises or personality quite yet. We know he'll peek around a corner nervously... we know he'll roll like a ball out of hell in a hurry... but how does he stack up against the greatest Astromechs in history like HUEY, DEWEY & LOUIE from SILENT RUNNING or... what's his name... Artoo! Giggle.
Well, SPHERO has a version of BB-8 that I haven't been able to get out of my head since I saw it being demonstrated on GOOD MORNING, AMERICA followed by the hosts in the YouTube Recording studio in Los Angeles today during the huge Disney Worldwide UnBoxing event. Now - where's this model of BB-8 going to be available?
DISNEY STORES, Sphero.com, Apple, Brookstone, BED BATH & BEYOND, Best Buy, Marbles, Sprint and Amazon.
This BB-8 will follow spoken commands, your smart device finger strokes, it can be set to go on Patrol and even has Augmented Reality through the phone, where it will convert your videos, then transform that video into a holographic video you can see and share from the BB-8 app.
I think the coolest thing about this toy... is this is just how awesome it is upon release. As you update the app, BB-8 will become even more playful, bringing in revealed aspects of the upcoming Star Wars film(s).
SO - how do you get your free one. Yesterday, as I was freaking out online about STAR WARS toys - as I'm known to do... That's when i got a tweet from Mark Newbold saying, "Already know your designation: A1-CN. Pop Culture Droid" - it made me laugh and I thought - that's perfect for this contest.
