Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. So, Michael Winterbottom is making a movie about Roger Ebert and Russ Meyer's short collaboration on sleazy movies in the late '60s called Russ & Roger. As The Dude once famously said, "That's fucking interesting, man. That's fucking interesting."
Will Ferrell is in to play Russ Meyer and, according to THR, the long-rumored Josh Gad has been locked in to play Roger Ebert.
In the early days of the Alamo Drafthouse they brought out Russ Meyer a couple of times to show some of his more popular movies, like Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! I remember at one of those screenings someone asked Meyer about Ebert and the man gleefully told us of his friend's masturbation habits and fetish for enormous titties.
If you've ever seen a Russ Meyer film you'll know that was a shared passion between the two men. Together they collaborated on Meyer's big time shot at 20th Century Fox, making a kinda sequel to Valley of the Dolls called Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. It's a weird freakin' movie and one that had a lot of trouble with the censorship board. Needless to say, Russ Meyer was not made to be a studio filmmaker.
So far the casting on this picture is legit. Gad just has to play young Ebert a bit more lecherous than he might expect and we're all golden.
