Neve Campbell flew with Don Draper in last year’s final season premiere of “Mad Men,” then surprised everyone when she didn’t pull a Cardellini and spend some time with the Whitman weiner.
The trailer up there confirms Campbell will play the wife of atom bomb inventor Robert Oppenheimer in WGN’s “Manhattan.” The funny thing about “Manhattan” is we hardly ever saw Oppenheimer; the guy who played him (as an undiagnosed Aspergers sufferer) barely appeared in three of the first 13 episodes. In the series it kind of looked like Oppenheimer just hired the people who did the actually bomb inventing while Oppenheimer himself was always off in D.C. conferring with government officials. Maybe Campbell’s hiring signals a change in that regard.
Very, very few people watched “Manhattan” on Sunday nights last season (likely people like me who forgot they got WGN in their cable package), but I never missed an episode, so I guess it’s got something. I suspect if “Manhattan” ever hits Netflix it could take off.
In the meantime, WGN is moving “Manhattan” to Tuesdays, where it should really fall off everyone’s radar.
New episodes resume Oct. 13.
