Matt Ryan, who played the title role in NBC’s “Constantine” last season, will be playing the character again in the coming season of “Arrow” – and it turns out he’s doing it for an interesting reason.
It turns out Constantine will be brought in to help resurrect Sara “Canary” Lance so she can join Hawkman, Hawkgirl, The Atom, Firestorm and Rip Hunter in combating Vandal Savage on the CW’s midseason miniseries “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”
I love this idea because it harkens back to Constantine’s supporting-character roots in Alan Moore’s wonderful amazing run on Saga of The Swamp Thing. Constantine was the guy who showed up knowing more about The Swamp Thing than the Swamp Thing did.
Now he’s the guy who knows more about Ra’s Al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit than the people in possession of it.
(If NBC’s “Constantine” had ideas this good it might still be on the air.)
To be clear, Constantine will appear only on the fifth episode of the coming season of “Arrow” and will not be a member of the “Legends of Tomorrow” leaguelette of justice.
