Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Trumbo looks like Oscar bait, but that's not a bad thing. Just like all superhero movies are financed because the studios that put up the budgets want to get that sweet franchise money rolling in, sometimes these more dramatic movies are made for awards prestige.
The current trend shows awards success in dramas about Hollywood in some way. Argo, The Artist and Birdman all fit this mold. And if John Goodman is in it your chances at a gold statue double!
I don't care if a movie is made for prestige if it's a good one and the trailer for Trumbo looks great. You get Bryan Cranston getting to really sink his teeth into another meaty character post-Walter White and an indictment of McCarthy-era witchhunts at the same time!
Dalton Trumbo was one of cinema's wittiest screenwriters and anything that helps cement his lasting legacy is a good thing in my book. Plus this movie gives us Dame Helen Mirren as famous gossip columnist Hedda Hopper! That's all-time dream stuff for anybody obsessed with cinema history.
