Non, the hulking Kryptonian who helped Zod and Ursa conquer the earth in “Superman II,” is on his way to menace Supergirl.
Fans should expect a smarter Non.
In 2007’s Action Comics #845, co-written by “Superman” director Richard Donner, it was revealed that Non was a a genius scientist and mentor to Superman’s scientist father Jor-El. Because Non tried to warn the Krypton’s public about its planet’s impending doom, Krypton’s Science Council ordered Non transformed via lobotomy into the mute fellow we met in 1978’s “Superman.”
Speaking at the show’s TCA event this week, “Supergirl” producer Andrew Kreisberg disclosed that the CBS series would give us our first look at the pre-lobotomized Non.
Greg Berlanti, who wrote the Ryan Reynolds “Green Lantern” movie before he created the CBS version of “Supergirl,” counts himself a fan of Donner’s big-screen “Superman.” “And if you go back and watch them again – if you remove the action set pieces, just the sort of sweeping vistas and the size and the scope of it – it had something that just imprinted on our brains and I associated that with what it meant to tell a story.”
Callum Blue played Non’s old boss Zod appeared in 22 episodes of “Smallville” between 2009 and 2011.
CBS’ “Supergirl” takes flight Oct. 27.
