SPY KIDS images flood online!

Published at:  Oct 23, 2000 5:07:51 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with pics and info about SPY KIDS. Apparently Dimension or Miramax or somebody has decided to let the cat out of the bag apparently. There were some specific things that Robert Rodriguez did not want out about SPY KIDS... Some twists that took it from the regular world of Spy films, and into the world of fantasy.

To be honest, I'm not entirely surprised. They're the same company that let the cat out of the bag that Vampires are in FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, even though the whole point of the film was to make you think that it was a crime film... Can you imagine if UNIVERSAL had advertised PSYCHO as being a movie where Anthony Perkins plays a ... well, I can't bring myself to spoil it now... and that's just cause three might be some that DON'T KNOW.

These elements were... according to early trailer concepts cut by Rodriguez, going to be completely hidden... But now, someone at Dimension released these press-release photos to FRENCH PREMIERE, who... as they are surely unaware... well the pooch is out of the bag.

Sigh. I will not publish the key photos here... not because of some deal with Robert, but I really do feel these characters and particulars should arrive as they do in the film... at their own speed. Just as I feel Gollum and the Balrog should be introduced visually over the course of that series... However, I can shed some light on some of this...

If you want to see all of the pics, go to This Page, but be prepared for quite a visual spoiler

The below is a simple guide to some of the basic characters... Up first is Floog as played by Alan Cumming. Floog is a strange genius inventor host of the world's most popular childrens television program. He's very eccentric and quite the recluse. There is more to him than meets the eye.

Next up is Danny Trejo, who plays Machete... an independent operator of the world's greatest spy shop. Where spies round the world... terrorists... foreign governments... they all come and bow down to Machete. He's the guy he really makes all the stuff that Q takes credit for. He's a bit insane... possibly dangerous and possibly evil. We'll just have to see.

Our next two images come in the shape of Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino. They portray the parents of the SPY KIDS. Think of them as James Bond and TRIPLE X, but married and settled down. They are on a mission that protects and holds the life of all the people of earth in a balance.

And below... Below you will find Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara. These... these are the Spy Kids. They will go on quite an adventure. If everything has come together as Robert wanted it to, you will be quite thrilled by the adventure that these two are set upon. I'm just praying that DIMENSION doesn't place 'Mr Voice' over the trailer... and that they come up with a more distinctive and powerful voice for the trailer... Perhaps... DANNY TREJO!!! Sorry... I am a huge Danny Trejo fan, and having him be the trailer narrator would give the film an immediate COOLER THAN DISNEY feel... beyond just the images that'll be on display.

At the French Premiere site, you'll see characters and shots that really are inappropriate if you are trying to at all protect the second half of the film... Of course... maybe they have decided to go with a... 'let it all hang out' sort of way... while the images don't show all that is cool... they give a hint of what the film is capable of... and really... well, whatever. Expect the first theatrical teaser trailer sometime around the time that THE GRINCH opens. That's my bet.

  • Cause he directs them so well. His siblings in BEDHEAD are excellent and the kids from FOUR ROOMS are so likeable. His comic strip was about kids as well I think. I am looking forward to this and anything Robert does.

    I spy a fun film

    by islander

I thought this was going to be a big budget after school special (still good just not a big film). I am glad I was wrong. This looks to be a fun movie with a nice fantasy twist. I just hope it is a real family friendly film and not one that JUST got a PG rating. You know what i'm talking about.

    What the hell?

    by gag halfrunt

OK, I've checked out those freaky-ass pics on the French site. To quote Krusty, "What the hell is that?" Somebody tell me what this film is about, and why extras from the disneyland parade make appearances...

Is that little red haired kid supposed to be Harry Jr.?

    by regis travolta

What a little wussy boy! Jesus nobody's going to buy that little fart boy as a Spy Kid! Must be Rodriguez's inside joke homage to what Harry looked like when he was 9 or 10! And how the hell can there be any surprises in a movie titled Spy Kids anyway? Hello!!! It's about Kids who are Spies! Not frog lickers or stamp collectors but Little League Spies! And the Save The World when Mom and Dad are Captured by Dr. Evil! Wake the neighbors! Phone the kids! Get rid of that little red haired pipsqueak!

Beware! What look like Killer Klowns from Space await you if you

    by regis travolta

This movie looks like a Disney pic on acid. It also looks silly beyond comprehension. OK some day, when I'm married and actually have kids of my own, maybe then I'll watch the damn thing. Until then I think I can live without these Silly Kids. Note to Rodriguez: Why did you waste your time making this movie? You are a decent filmmaker who should be aspiring to great things, not trivial pursuits that neither challenge you nor engage your skills. On second thought, maybe this is where you belong! Perhaps this will be your best picture yet. Harry seems to like it and we know he loves/adores/idolizes/worships you, hence his janitorial cameo in The Faculty.

and to think all this time.........

    by morricone

....that i thought the movie was about kids who enjoy spying on their parents while they're fucking...not the voyeuristic masterpiece i'd hoped it had been silly me.

My eyes! The goggles do nothing!

    by lshb

There should be a warning symbol around these pictures, particularly the last one of the actual 'spy kids'. Chuck in a talking weasel and you have every Disney live-action film ever made. No, that's not good.

Okay, I just took a look at the complete set of pics and...

...this film could very well suck ass. Did anyone else take a look at that pic with the thumb people? It was so obviously a minature scale set...the FX people really didn't do a good job. And, those pictures of the clowns on crack...ugh! Like I said, this film could very well suck ass.

    From Dusk 'til Dawn sucked....

    by iamlegolas

If you have been watching horror movies like Dawn Of The Dead or Zombi, etc. for like forever, this movie isn't anything special. Except for the Tarantino stylings at the beginning up to what seems like a half an hour into the movie, the rest of the movie is filmed in one room. When it was over I was like, "That's it?". Anyhow...I haven't heard of this SpyKids film until now, but anything with Disney's stamp on it is bound to be corrupt in some way...

    This looks cool!

Like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The 500 Fingers of Dr. T., or City of Lost Children, etc. Robert Rodriguez ROCKS! Those hand people were freaky. I don't think you tell if the movie will be good or not from these photos, But if R.R.'s directing, I'm there.
