While we're waiting for the footage from THE HATEFUL 8 (which just premiered at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con), here's a bit of very good news from the panel: Ennio Morricone is writing an original score for the film. After several missed opportunities in the past (mostly due to scheduling), Tarantino will finally get to collaborate with his favorite movie music composer of all time. Even better, this will be Morricone's first Western score in forty years! Here's hoping he waited for the right film. I'm thinking he did.
In case you're wondering, I think the 1975 western in question was Damiano Damiani's A GENIUS, TWO FRIENDS, AND AN IDIOT. Here's the main theme (which finds Morricone again quoting Beethoven's "Fur Elise").
Actually, Tarantino was mistaken. Morricone scored Bud Spencer's BUDDY GOES WEST in 1981. So make that "first Western in thirty-four years."
