Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Yep, it looks like Marisa Tomei could very well be playing young Tom Holland's Aunt in the Marvel Films/Sony team up that finally brings Spider-Man into the MCU fold.
I know this is confusing to folks my age and older because to us Tomei is still a sex symbol, which Aunt May never was in the books... at least for me when I was reading. Despite the difference in appearance, age-wise she's not all that far off from the May Parker depicted in the books, especially with Peter being cast so young in this new iteration of everybody's favorite neighborhood Spider-Man.
Variety intially broke the story and The Wrap has confirmed it, citing that Tomei is in final negotiations as we speak.
Naturally anything can happen, but I think it's abundantly clear that Marvel and Sony are playing a long game here, hoping that this time they set up the franchise that will unspool for 20 or more years. There's a reason they didn't cast a 30 year old that can play a teenager. They want this to be THE Spider-Man for as long as comic geeks and superhero fanatics are willing to buy tickets.
All I know is that Holland is a great young actor, Tomei is a fantastic and strong screen presence and with Marvel showing Sony the way I think we're in a happy place. What do you folks think?
