Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Another week, another Star Wars rumor. Get used to it, this is going to be our reality for the next decade...
This one would be particularly epic if it shakes out, but there's a few things about it that sets off my bullshit detector.
The rumor is that Donnie Yen will be playing a Jedi of some sort in Star Wars Episode 8 and was first reported by a Hong Kong tabloid called Apple Daily.
The good folks over at Slashfilm have translated the story and broke down some of the details, which is when some of the bullshit alerts start going off. First of all, they claim that he'll be shooting scenes next month (along side Harrison Ford, no less), but from everything I've heard Episode 8 doesn't begin filming until January of next year.
Now it is possible, if you take the Harrison Ford stuff out of the equation, that Yen will be in Gareth Edwards' Rogue One spin-off, but if so he wouldn't be a Jedi as we've already been told that film will be more about the regular, non-super Force powered, people in the galaxy.
Yen would be a cool addition to the new slate, but there is quite a bit of wrong info mixed in with this rumor, so either that site that broke the news was also fed a bunch of BS misinformation or is making a ton of assumptions.
But we can all dream, can't we? How cool would it be to see Ip Man in a galaxy far, far away?
