J.C. Chandor To Possibly Direct Former Kathryn Bigelow Project TRIPLE FRONTIER

J.C. Chandor Most Violent Year

Jeremy here...

The Charles Roven-produced TRIPLE FRONTIER was supposed to be Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to THE HURT LOCKER back in 2010, but the Oscar-winning filmmaker eventually left the project to make ZERO DARK THIRTY. Five years later, Roven's attached a new filmmaker, and is hoping to generate the same amount of excitement that once attracted the likes of Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Javier Bardem, Sean Penn, Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner to the project.

J.C. Chandor is currently in talks to direct the drama set in the tri-border area of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, where smugglers and Islamist terrorist financiers operate with relative impunity due to a weak judicial system. This is grist for a terrific political thriller, and Chandor seems ready to make the leap to A-list studio films after his impressive run of MARGIN CALL, ALL IS LOST and A MOST VIOLENT YEAR. The initial draft was written by Bigelow's partner, Mark Boal, but it's likely Roven and Chandor will bring in another writer prior to going into production. Perhaps Chandor himself will write.

Now that the project is back on, I imagine Paraguay and Argentina are going to get pissed all over again regarding the negative depiction of their countries.
