This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Zombie Kangaroos, Late Bloomers, and Terrifying Horror Galore!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with an extra special lineup of incredible films from AICN readers like you and me. This past week has been packed to the brim in my world, so it's great to sit back, ignore my phone, and rewatch these great films with you folks. I've got great horror, some comedy, and an incredible music video to share, so whatever your tastes might lean towards - boom, I've got you covered. These are all films made with a passion, with something unique to tell - not a sequel, not a reboot - just pure storytelling. (Of course, if you've not yet seen JURASSIC WORLD - watch these shorts, then head to your nearest theater and get on it!). So let's get this party started - let's watch some fun films, films you might not have seen yet!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

WATERBORNE

TRT: 9:34

We're kicking this week off in style, with zombie kangaroos. I first was fortunate enough to catch this film when it played at Fantastic Fest last year. I loved it and was able to pick director Ryan Coogan's brain a bit afterward. The Jurassic Park love is strong in this one, as you'll soon see. Ryan and company were able to raise roughly $17,000 on Indiegogo for the film and it looks like every penny of it was put in front of the lens. This is an incredibly fun film that I'm 200% certain you guys and gals will enjoy. While the short stands on its own two legs, it also acts as a proof of concept for a larger feature, one I'd truly want to see. If you like the film as much as I do, then fly over to its website or check it out on Facebook.

GOTCHER

TRT: 3:37

Now on to something truly creepy, a fantastic film from Bruce Branit that will leave you... holding on to your nose. "A group of survivors meet to recollect something evil in their past... something that was taken from their childhood." This short actually gave me goosebumps. If you dig it, then head over to Branit's website to check out some cool behind the scenes info.

BLOOMERS

TRT: 11:17

Let's shift gears to a different style of horror(ish), with a film from Corrie Chen. "When Stella realises she's the only girl in her class who doesn't have her period, she sets out to fast-track her way to womanhood through somewhat unconventional methods." Corrie was inspired by WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE and FREAKS & GEEKS. It's impeccably shot, slick camera moves, great acting all around, and is filled with saturated imagery - I love it. No, a short about a young lady feeling less than due to not having a period is not something I'd typically lean towards, but hot damn if Corrie Chen didn't deliver something incredible here. Feel free to head over to the film's Facebook page for more info!

SAVAGE | LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON

TRT: 2:57

Next up is pure Michael Jackson love from James Chappell, a SATURDAY SHORTS alumn with THE GRID and THE KEEPER. He's back and with something special, a hee hee... "It is a kooky, fun homage to Michael Jackson featuring a possessed glove which attaches itself to a human host and makes him sleep-dance."

A KILLER OF MEN

TRT: 21:20

I know what you folks are thinking, "Muldoon! How about a post-apocalyptic revenge western?" Boom, Gregg Meller's got you covered with our last short of the week. "Shot and left for dead by the commune of murderers and thieves who raised him, an 18 year-old pure-bred killer must trek across the lawless desert waste to exact his revenge and rid the world of a their evil." Gregg is planning on a feature version of the film, so to follow its progress and news - be sure to visit the film's website or Facebook page.

That's all for this week, ladies and gents. I'll see you guys and gals a week from now with another handful of interesting short films you might not see otherwise. Thanks again to the filmmakers out there who consistently send their work my way. This column literally would not exist without you! If you've got an idea for a short, grab a camera and shoot it! If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
