"Every day across that border, people are killed with his blessing. To find him would be like discovering a vaccine." Emily Blunt takes on the cartel alongside Thanos and The Collector in this trailer for SICARIO!

SICARIO got really strong reviews out of Cannes, and after seeing the trailer below, it’s not hard to imagine why. It’s a well-cut, tense showcase of the FBI-agent-in-over-her-head premise and the claustrophobic paranoia of being in cartel country, even with combat training and armed escorts. Benicio Del Toro stole the show in the similarly-themed SAVAGES (as well as TRAFFIC, obviously), and it looks like his character is just as badass and interesting this time around.

That car ambush thing, no matter how many times they use it, from CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER to IRON MAN to FAST FIVE, it never gets old.

Inevitably, the trailer gives away certain plot points and reveals that would probably have optimum impact with the actual movie in front of and behind them. I’m hoping things are more than what they seem here and that the character(s) that seem like the obvious villain(s) have more shading to them than a handful of lines can afford. Based on the casting, I think that's safe to assume.

This certainly looks bigger than anything else Denis Villeneuve has directed thus far, and the set-pieces look immediate and intense. Even if I didn’t have to see it just to gauge what to expect from Villeneuve’s BLADE RUNNER sequel, I’d still be onboard on the strengths of this trailer.

SICARIO examines the all-encompassing might of the cartel on September 18th.
