Reports: That HUGO/ENDER Kid Will Not Be The Next Spider-Man!!

I am – Hercules!!

Asa Butterfield, who played the leads in “Hugo” and “Ender’s Game,” won’t be the next Spider-Man after all according to two Web fixtures.

Longtime Wrap employee Jeff Sneider said on a Meet The Movie Press podcast that Butterfield is no longer a contender for the role, and three other actors are now considered the finalists:

Tom Holland (“The Impossible”);

Charlie Plummer (“Boardwalk Empire”); and

Matthew Lintz (“Revolution,” “Pixels”).

Devin Faraci at the Birth.Movies.Death site also reports that Butterfield is out, but says there are only two finalists:

Tom Holland (“The Impossible”); and

Charlie Rowe (“The Golden Compass”).

The reports obviously contradict each other, but I bet Tom Holland is having a pretty good day.

Whoever gets the role will be the first Spider-Man to enter the Disney/Marvel onscreen universe shared by Peggy Carter, Phil Coulson, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Hank Pym, Luke Cage, Steve Rogers, Matt Murdock, Peter Quill, Frank Castle, Luke Cage, Carol Danvers, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, Thor and so many others.

The new Spidey is expected to make his debut in “Captain America: Civil War.”
