Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. As long as the Alice in Wonderlands and Maleficents and Cinderellas of this world keep raking in the cash we'll continue to see them raiding their vault for new adaptations. Fantasia is no stranger to the live action treatment. Who could forget Nic Cage magic-fighting with Alfred Molina in The Sorcerer's Apprentice? Oh, a lot of you... Well, I liked it well enough.
Disney has hired Dracula Untold's Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to script the live action adaptation, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Live-action is a bit of a question mark, though. Surely the Chernobog is going to be CG anyway... I guess we'll have some newly invented hero or heroine with the backdrop of the demon raising the dead... Which, I gotta say kinda makes me smile.
Disney had a great period of live action scary kids movies that I've been hoping they'd return to. I rewatched one of them, Return to Oz, on the big screen last weekend and damn is it still eerie. "Dooooorrrrroothhhyyy Gaaaaaaallllleee."
With Guillermo del Toro developing a Haunted Mansion flick and this one in development, perhaps we'll see a return to form for scary family films? Probably not... they'll just keep remaking their cartoons, but it's a nice dream anyway.
