For some reason I have a fetish for obstacle courses, which helps explain why I love shows like “Survivor,” “Big Brother” and “Wipeout” so much more than “The Voice” and “The Bachelorette.” “American Ninja Warrior” is like NFL football to me. Unbelievable sounds come out of me every time a contestant is eliminated. I love it like crazy. I wish there was a way to bet on it.
I particularly like the early rounds of the show, before almost all of the women get eliminated. Last year was thrilling when tiny Kacy Catanzaro became the first woman ever to get past the 14.2’ “warped wall” and complete a course.
NBC’s “The Island” is an exhibition, not a competition (please, no wagering). It also appears not to have a crew; the cast is just dropped off on a remote island with a bunch of cameras and charged with filming each other as they work to survive. Kind of like “Naked and Afraid,” but without the hot nude girls.
