HBO’s Class Warfare Series From WIRE Mastermind David Simon Gets A Launch Date!!

I am – Hercules!!

“Watchmen” creator Alan Moore and comedian Patton Oswalt are among those who think “The Wire” is the best TV series ever, and we now know when the next series from “Wire” mastermind David Simon premieres: Aug. 16.

Oscar Isaac (“Ex Machina,” “Star Wars Episode VII”) stars in “Show Me A Hero” as Nick Wasicsko, the real-life 28-year-old mayor of Yonkers, N.Y., who saw his political career derailed after he was forced by a federal court to build low-income housing in his city’s whitest neighborhoods.

Catherine Keener (“Captain Phillips,” “Bad Grandpa”) plays the leader of an East Yonkers homeowners association whose views on the project change radically once she gets to know its prospective tenants.

The six-hour miniseries is based on the book by Lisa Belkin and co-scripted by Simon, who masterminded numerous other projects for the channel, including “The Wire,” “Treme” and two other miniseries: “The Corner” and “Generation Kill.”

Press release!

From creator David Simon (HBO’s “Treme” and “The Wire”) and director Paul Haggis (“Crash”), and based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Lisa Belkin, this six-part miniseries explores notions of home, race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, NY.

In an America generations removed from the greatest civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the young mayor (Oscar Isaac) of a mid-sized American city is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town. His attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future.

In addition to Oscar Isaac, SHOW ME A HERO stars Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, LaTanya Richardson-Jackson, Bob Balaban and Jim Belushi. Directed by Paul Haggis; written by David Simon and William F. Zorzi; executive produced by David Simon, Nina K. Noble, Paul Haggis, Gail Mutrux and William F. Zorzi.

The subsequent five parts of SHOW ME A HERO debut on other Sundays – Aug. 23 and 30, and Sept. 13, 20 and 27 – at the same time.
