“We will tell you why the dome came down and what it’s about,” “Under the Dome” showrunner Neal Baer promised at this week’s CBS summer press event. “By the end of the season, you’ll know exactly why this happened the way that it happened.”
When the “why” of the Dome wasn’t revealed at the end of the first season? That was a bit of a surprise, especially considering CBS initially billed “Dome” as a miniseries. When the “why” didn’t come at the end of the second season? That, I thought, was a little crazy.
The big questions now are, “Will the explanation prove compelling enough?” and “Will anyone still be around to care?”
“Under The Dome” debuted two years ago with a huge 3.3 rating in the key 19-49 demo. Its second-season finale mustered a 1.8. While ratings for “Dome” took a sizeable plunge in 2014, “Dome” still got better ratings last year than regular-season shows CBS renewed, like “Madam Secretary” and “The Good Wife:
