Roger Deakins to shoot BLADE RUNNER 2 for Denis Villeneuve!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. While it shouldn't be much of a surprise that Roger Deakins is shooting the Blade Runner sequel (given that he's shot director Denis Villeneuve's last two films PRISONERS and SICARIO, which has been getting mighty strong word out of Cannes) it still a welcome bit of news for the sequel.

I think in a post Fury Road world the geeks will be a little less jaded about these 30+ later sequels (unless The Force Awakens fucks it all up) and so far we've got two great craftsmen behind the camera for the sci-fi sequel. Production designer will be the next key behind the scenes position.

We do know that Harrison Ford will be back as Deckard, confirmed in the press release that announced Deakins, and it is rumored that Ryan Gosling will join in the fun.

If the name rings a bell, but you don't know off the top of your head what Deakins has done, here's the "D'oh, I knew that!" list for you: Barton Fink, Hudsucker Proxy, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, The Man Who Wasn't There, Intolerable Cruelty, Ladykillers, No Country, A Serious Man, True Grit (I guess the Coens like this dude), The Shawshank Redemption, Passion Fish, Sid and Nancy, Kundun, The Village, The Assassination of Jesse James, Skyfall, Unbroken and a bunch more.

Blade Runner DP Jordan Cronenweth set up an amazing template for Deakins. Very curious to see how much he nods to the look of the 1982 film and how much he makes this universe his own. Whichever way he goes, it'll be gorgeous.

To wit, from Prisoners:

Only good news, right fellow cinema fiends?
