There Were No Guests On The Last TONIGHT SHOW WITH JOHNNY CARSON, But LETTERMAN’s Finale Is Going Another Way!!

UPDATE!!

While Johnny Carson went guest-free on his final episode of “The Tonight Show,” Carson’s former late-night padawan seems to be heading in a different direction.

Frontman Dave Grohl tweeted that Foo Fighters would be performing on tonight’s “Late Show With David Letterman” finale, and there are reports of numerous celebrities converging upon the Ed Sullivan Theater for tonight’s final taping, among them Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Peyton Manning, Barbara Walters and Jim Carrey.

Some, if not all of them, read "The Top 10 Last Things I Would Like To Say To David Letterman."

LAST NIGHT'S POST:

David Letterman, a late-night talk-show host longer than anyone on the planet, ends his 33-year run Wednesday night.

NBC's “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” closed shop May 22, 1992. CBS' “The Late Show With David Letterman” launched Aug. 30, 1993.

Jay Leno is the single biggest reason Letterman has been at CBS for more than two decades. Will Leno turn up for tonight’s final “Letterman” to bid his old frenemy farewell?  Coiuld Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon and Jon Stewart and Conan O'Brien wander by as well?

David Letterman is in my view the best and funniest talk-show host in the history of history. It is unlikely I’ll ever see anyone better at that job in my lifetime. And if we get cable in Hell, I’d be danged surprised if anybody finds any talk show host as good as Letterman before our sun burns out.

11:35 p.m. Wednesday. CBS.
