Looks like the sequel to Christopher McQuarrie’s 2012 JACK REACHER movie is finally coming together.
Paramount and Skydance are in negotiations with The Last Samurai team of Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz to rewrite Richard Wenk’s script for Jack Reacher 2, the follow-up to the 2012 Tom Cruise-starrer that made $218.3M worldwide and $80M-plus domestic.

The plan is to have Zwick direct the sequel, and Cruise is already poised to return for a second go-round.
…reveals THIS piece over at Deadline, which goes on to indicate the sequel will be based on NEVER GO BACK, author Lee Child’s 2013 installment of his long-running (and popular) JACK REACHER literary franchise.
Christopher McQuarrie, who scripted and helmed the first REACHER movie (and is reprising those duties for Cruise’s new MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION), will still be on-board this project as an Executive Producer, a credit which will be shared by Cruise as well.
Zwick and Herskovitz credits are impressive and extensive. Zwick previously helmed THE LAST SAMURAI, LEGENDS OF THE FALL, THE SIEGE, and one of my favorite movies, GLORY. In addition to being an accomplished producer/director, Herskovitz may be best remembered for his work on the THIRTYSOMETHING television series and the aforementioned LAST SAMURAI feature film. He even wrote an episode of CHiPS back in 1980!
No word on when we can expect to see the new JACK REACHER in theaters - we’ll let you know when we hear.
