“iZombie,” the new CW series from writer-producer Rob Thomas (creator also of “Cupid,” “Veronica Mars” and “Party Down”) is getting a second season.
It’s no surprise. The hot undead saga, very loosely based on the DC/Vertigo comic book, has been getting – by CW standards – very high ratings in its post-“Flash” timeslot, and it even managed to hang on to all of its prior-week audience when it had to follow a “Flash” repeat.
Along with Greg Belanti’s “The Flash” on the CW, David Goyer’s “Constantine” on NBC and Bruno Heller’s “Gotham” on Fox, “iZombie” was only one of four DC Comics superhero shows premiering this season. With “iZombie’s” pick-up, “Constantine” remains the last of the four to manage a second-season pick-up.
If you’ve not seen it, it’s about a medical examiner infected with a zombie virus who must eat brains on a regular basis to avoid turning into a grrrr-arrgghh mindless zombie. The twist is, she gains the memories and abilities of every brain she eats.
The CW announces its 2015-2016 plans one week from tomorrow, but the netlet has already given early renewals to all of its current hourlongs except the super-low-rated “The Messengers.”
