CBS does not formally announce its 2015-2016 plans until next Wednesday, but it has already picked up Greg Berlanti’s “Supergirl” to series.
The series will follow the adventures of Clark Kent’s hot blonde cousin, who has all the powers and abilities of Superman. At age 24 she decides to stop keeping those powers and abilities a secret.
Melissa Benoist (the female lead in “Whiplash”) plays the Girl of Steel, supported by Mehcad Brooks (Eggs on “True Blood”) as colleague James Olsen and Calista Flockhart (“Ally McBeal”) as boss Cat Grant.
This will probably be one of four Berlanti-scripted DC Comics superhero shows on the air next season, along with “Arrow,” “The Flash” and very likely the untitled CW spin-off starring Brandon Routh as Ray “The Atom” Palmer. (Berlanti’s DC Comics involvement also extended to his scripting 2011's Ryan Reynolds “Green Lantern” movie.)
The prior season brought three non-Belanti DC Comics series: “iZombie,” “Constantine” and the already-renewed “Gotham.” Seth Rogen’s adaptation of DC/Vertigo’s “Preacher” will hit AMC later this year.
