STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: BOBA FETT

…or something like that.

Jeff Sneider at The Wrap has confirmed that the second STAR WARS spinoff that Josh Trank was previously set to direct will be an origin story looking into the past of our favorite Mandalorian armor-clad bounty hunter.

Given how prominent Boba’s getup and weaponry have been in STAR WARS merch for the past 35 years, it’s less of a surprise that he’ll be getting his own solo film than that Lucas felt the need to show his childhood/origin in ATTACK OF THE CLONES. He’s barely in the three SW films (and the Holiday Special) that he appeared in, but his face has been omnipresent on t-shirts, lunchboxes, backpacks, etc. since his debut, and it was only a matter of time before Lucasfilm would dig into the character and put him front and center in a big way. They’re apparently not going with the EU narrative that he survived the Sarlacc pit (despite that rather audible burp), so the only way to bring Boba back into the fold in a serious way was to dig into his past. My only surprise is that they decided to do ROGUE ONE before this one.

Obviously, Trank’s departure is a setback for the film, which is still set for 2018, but they’re still expected to go off the work already done by Simon Kinberg. The next move is finding a director who can do justice to the story of a young, orphaned clone as he finds himself THAT armor, procures Slave 1, and becomes one of the baddest mofos in the galaxy.

Then, of course, they gotta find someone to inhabit said armor. Can’t imagine who’s badass enough to do the job justice. Iko Urwais? Tony Jaa? Vin Diesel? Chris Pratt???

Who would you guys want to see helm this thing now that Trank has jumped ship? Gareth Evans? Matthew Vaughn? The JOHN WICK guys??

I predict a Jabba.
