Rodney Ascher, the director behind ROOM 237, (the documentary that examined the varied, detailed, kind of out-there fan theories that have developed around Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING), is back with another unconventional film. It's a new doc, but it is one that promises to shake you to your very core, and almost guarantees many sleepless nights.
THE NIGHTMARE is a study of the all too real and super terrifying condition known as Sleep Paralysis. People who suffer from this condition will find themselves trapped in waking nightmares, unable to fully return to wakefulness and stuck experiencing whatever horrors go on when we close our eyes at night.
The film was a huge hit at Sundance and SXSW, many critics seeing it as less a documentary and more a full-on horror film.
