Woody Allen is in awfully familiar territory with IRRATIONAL MAN, a drama about a depressed philosophy professor (Joaquin Phoenix) whose life is turned around when he falls in love with a student (Emma Stone). Complicating matters is his fuck-buddy relationship with a colleague (Parker Posey). And then there's Maude.
Woody's latest film was shot by the great Darius Khondji, so at least it'll be pretty. As for whether the seventy-nine-year-old filmmaker can mine this shopworn material for anything new and insightful, we'll just have to wait for July 17, 2015 to see for ourselves.
IRRATIONAL MAN premieres next month at the Cannes Film Festival.
