Adam Wingard to Direct DEATH NOTE Adaptation!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

Over the past couple of years, Adam Wingard has established himself as a fascinating director who doesn't shy away from interesting projects, as well as a talent to watch. Along with longtime writing partner Simon Barrett, he has taken horror and cult film by storm, first making a mark with the wicked YOU'RE NEXT, and last year, by the freaking incredible THE GUEST.

His newest project? An adaptation of Death Note for Warner Bros, says THR.

First conceived as a manga, and then adapted as a popular anime, Death Note centers on a student who discovers a magical notebook that grants him the power to kill at will, simply by writing the victim's name in the book. He decides to use his newfound tool to rid the world of all those he perceives to be evil.

The film has been bouncing around for years, with IRON MAN 3 director Shane Black attached at one point. It seems the torch is now passing, and Wingard will make it his next project after he finishes work on THE WOODS, scheduled to shoot this summer with longtime collaborator Simon Barrett.

This sounds like exactly the kind of material that Wingard could put a unique spin on. The most recent draft of the script was completed by Jeremy Slater, who also penned the forthcoming FANTASTIC FOUR.

What do you guys think? Ready to see Wingard take on Death Note?
