Universal Pushes Back THE MUMMY, WARCRAFT, and PACIFIC RIM 2

Out of Cinemacon comes a new batch of release dates for a handful of Universal’s big upcoming tentpoles:

Duncan Jones’ WARCRAFT, which was scheduled for March 11th of next year, will now come out on June 10th, 2016. That pits it against NOW YOU SEE ME: THE SECOND ACT, THE CONJURING 2, and the UNCHARTED adaptation (the latter will probably move, as it’s relatively early on in development).

THE MUMMY, which will be directed by Alex Kurtzman, was set for June 24th, 2016, but has been pushed back nearly a year to March 24th, 2017. The only flick scheduled for that new date is ALLEGIANT, the third and last DIVERGENT movie.

Guillermo Del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM 2 is moving almost exactly 4 months back from April 7th, 2017 to August 4th of that year. Nothing currently scheduled for that day. Hopefully, the late summer release date will give PAC RIM 2 the breathing room I think would’ve benefited the first film, a mid-July release.

Their second big dip into their classic UNIVERSAL MONSTERS line (which could be another WOLF MAN flick) will come out nearly a full year from its original release date of April 21, 2017. It’ll now debut on March 30th, 2018.

They’ve also announced release dates for the reteam of Doug Liman/Tom Cruise reteam, MENA (January 6th, 2017, though I’d expect a limited engagement in the weeks prior for Oscar consideration), the next two FIFTY SHADES movies (2/10/17 and 2/9/18, respectively) and the previously announced FAST AND FURIOUS 8 (a mere two years from now, on April 14th, 2017).

Pretty exciting slate Uni’s got goin’ for them right now, wouldn’t you agree?
