This poster has plenty of LOVE & MERCY!!

Almost 9 months after it premiered at Toronto, and a little over a month until the film is finally released, and we have an official one-sheet for LOVE & MERCY, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

I didn’t think any of the advertising I’d seen prior to catching the film at SXSW correctly conveyed the surreal, sun-baked psychedelia of the film, but this poster does a fairly great job. This isn’t your daddy’s biopic, making HOLLYWOOD scenes out of the benchmark moments of Wilson’s life; this is a portrayal of this man’s struggles with psychosis while making some of the most beautiful and iconic music of its era. This groovy artwork gets across the feel of the film, and that it’s something more unique and expressionistic than some might expect at first glance. It's far more striking of a piece than a mere Photoshop collage of the four principals, and I hope it convinces more than a few casual moviegoers to take a chance on Bill Pohlad's ambitious and deeply loving portrait of Brian Wilson.

Just looking at it makes me want to break out Pet Sounds.

What do you Brian Wilson fans out there think of this one-sheet?

Feel the LOVE & MERCY on June 5th.
