Once FURIOUS 7 became Universal’s first billion dollar movie (unless you count JURASSIC PARK getting there after the 3D release a few years ago) it was inevitable that we would be getting a FAST AND FURIOUS 8. The inevitable just became official as Vin Diesel just announced at Cinemacon that FAST AND FURIOUS 8 (or FAST 8 or FURIOUS 8 or whatever the hell they call it) will hit theaters on April 14th, 2017.
That’s pretty much all we know officially on the next one though there have been plenty of rumors. Kurt Russell is expected to reprise his role as Mr. Nobody, and that the producers are really hoping they can convince Eva Mendes to return to the franchise. There has also been speculation that the film will take place in New York City. I am sure the core cast will be returning. The only one I wonder about is Dwayne Johnson. He has an extremely busy schedule and has sounded unsure in some of his recent comments. Hopefully, he returns though and we actually see him share some screentime with Kurt Russell.
They seemed to have found their formula over the last three films, so as long as the films continue to maintain the fun and quality, I am all for more FAST AND FURIOUS films.
