Just out of Cinemacon (where our very own Quint is in attendance, albeit without access to the interwebs) is the news that that animated SPIDER-MAN flick, which we first heard about in the leaked Sony e-mails, is absolutely still on, and will be coming to theaters in July 2018.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently developing the flick and are set to produce, but, like everything they’re currently up for, it has yet to be seen whether the duo will end up occupying the director’s chair(s).
What is certain is that it will maintain franchise continuity with both the MCU and the standalone Spidey flick Sony’s developing for 2017. So I think it’s safe to say that whomever they sign as the live-action Peter Parker will also be voicing the animated counterpart.
We’re getting Spider-Man in theaters for the next three years, people, and with folks like the Russos, Lord/Miller, and possibly Drew Goddard handling the webslinger, I’m hoping for good things.
