The New York Times’ Dave Itzkoff tweeted Wednesday afternoon:
“2 interesting things Dave @Letterman said at tonite's taping: has asked Brian Williams to be guest on final shows; he hasn't said y or n.
“Also: as recently as last week, Jay Leno has been invited to appear on one of Letterman's last shows. Ball is in Leno's court, apparently.”
Leno once shot a Super Bowl promo for “The Late Show With David Letterman,” but has never actually appeared on Letterman’s CBS show.
Williams cancelled his Letterman booking shortly after his misstatements regarding his war experiences came to light.
Were I a betting man, I’d wager both men will find their way to the Ed Sullivan Theater before Letterman’s May 20 finale (precisely four weeks hence).
