Netflix has wasted no time in ordering up a second season of “Daredevil” for next year, but the blind crimefighter is coming back under new management.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” TV writers Drew Goddard and Steven S. DeKnight, who served as showrunners on “Daredevil’s” first season, have moved on and will not be writing the second season.
Netflix has instead promoted another “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” TV writer, Douglas Petrie, to serve as “Daredevil” showrunner.
Goddard, DeKnight and Petrie were all hired by “Buffy” mastermind Joss Whedon, who has been overseeing all of Marvel’s screen work in addition to writing and directing Marvel’s first two “Avengers” movies.
Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who will also serve as season-two “Daredevil” showrunner, toiled as writer-producers on “Daredevil’s” first season as well.
Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio and Deborah Ann Woll will all be back as Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk and Murdock secretary Karen Page, respectively.
Launching later this year is “AKA Jessica Jones,” a second Netflix/Marvel superhero series set in the same onscreen universe that contains Matt Murdock, Phil Coulson, Peggy Carter, Bruce Banner, Hank Pym, Peter Parker, Tony Stark, Peter Quill, Thor, Thanos, Howard The Duck, etc. etc.
A big question is whether the second season of “Daredevil” will take place before, after and/or during the events of other upcoming Marvel/Netflix series like “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders” (which will also feature Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock character).
