CLICK HERE TO GO GET THE TRAILER NOW!!!

Hi Harry,

Your site is great... I check it every day... Wish I had something
more dramatic like a peek at some action sequences from Matrix 2 with
Jet Li or a description of some of the Ep II Jedi light saber battle
scenes... but this humble piece of news is all I have... for now...

The "Monsters Inc" trailer is out... it can be seen on the apple site.

Kind of a different tempo... seems to be a minute or so of footage as
opposed to a series of spliced clips with a voice over...

Inform the troops I must return to the sanctum.

Yours,

Lamont Cranston

Now that that's out of the way...

I just am not impressed with anything Pixar does. I find their humor arrogant and I think they waste precious energy and resources in creating subpar entertainment. Imagine if they would team up with WB and do an animated Batman? Or Superman? Instead, what do they make? Movies about bugs and toys. Wow. Doesn't anyone understand what we adults want to see? Why do you think the box office was such a bomb this summer- everything sucked!

    by norrinradd76

I thought it was funny. Frankly I don't want to see Pixar get all serious as long as they make quality films. Now if they want to do a serious film, while they continue to do films like this, I have no problem with that. Rather than working with Warner Bros. they should work with Marvel and do some cool animated superhero flicks. Imagine a Pixar Fantastic Four movie with Galactus.

    Whoa, calm down there, Harry!

    by miracleman

I'm sure that "Monsters, Inc." will be a great movie (fantastic even), but don't get so antsy, okay? I'm sure that we all can wait for a year or so without contracting any serious mental side effects of being depraved of this computer-crafted confectionary. To everyone out there: have patience. There's no use in getting worked up over a film that is a year away from reaching the local cinema houses. As for me, I shall enjoy this tantalizingly terrific trailer, and then I shall wait calmly for the day when I will be able to see "Monsters, Inc." Now, I recommend that everyone go outside and enjoy the scenery, whether it be concrete jungle or sprawling forest (or something else), and take some deep breaths. Breathe in... breathe out... breathe in... breathe out... and relax. There now, don't you feel better?

Can someone tell me who the illustrious illustrator is of that amazing animation? I have forgotten the person's name, suffice it to say. Neurotic Monsters

    by x-girls

last time it was neurotic ants, before that neurotic toys, EVERY SINGLE fucking disney movie had some annoying neurotic character that bothers me immensely, they think it adds character development and lets them show off how well their animators can do expression. sigh, just for once, I'd like to skip this part of their films, or I may not even see this film, I'll prob'ly see it once but it will still irritate me like HELL. oh, and I'm sure there will be plenty of sitcom actors doing voices here too! A big dumb monster, a female monster that is no pushover, A genuinely evil monster, a good monster hero who loves the female monster... I could cast this film. Definately a few weak jokes about monsters and their unique enviroment together. "my aunt was in Men in Black" a bunch of kiddy jokes and loads of jokes that go way over their head and.. forget it, what sarcasm I wield.

    Adults/kids

    by prankster

You're right Blue Devil, I'm sick of all these kiddie flicks. I want to see a movie about a guy who wears a bat costume and tights fighting crime. Now that's adult entertainment! I.e. the kind with hardcore violence!

    Having seen it...

    by prankster

I was worried about this flick reverting to "A Bug's Life" style. The Toy Story movies were sharp and perfectly paced; ABL was, at times, juvenile and frantic, not to mention crammed full of too many characters to develop properly. And it fell prey to many Disneyisms, like empty or cliched dialogue, or over-cutesiness. Not that I didn't still like it, better than Antz as a matter of fact, but it was a good KIDS' movie whereas TS 1 and 2 were great movies for all ages. From this teaser, it's still abit hard to tell. There were overdone moments, but I ultimately couldn't help but chuckle. The credit card gag, Sully saying "I gotta get back to the break room before the donuts are gone", Billy Crystal and John Goodman's chemistry, all very good signs. Plus what I've heard of the storyline sounds promising; an animated corporate satire is something new, refreshingly relevant for aniamtion, and potentially hilarious. So, yes, I liked it (as if there was any doubt).

Blue Devil... you got a point but, I still like Pixar's work

    by robin goodfellow

Sure, maybe A Bug's Life was a tad on the juvenille side (good point, Prankster), but the Toy Story movies were great. Perhaps in the future Pixar may embark on really showing off that cartoons can be purely adult oriented, but for now I enjoy the fact that they're breaking down that stereotype that cartoons are kids' stuff. Break down the wall, then break on through to the other side. I soil myself envisioning what Pixar could do with adult material, though. Batman or Superman would be cool. What I'd really like to see is a gritty tribute to film noir with some hard boiled detective, some sultry dame, and a guy that looks like Peter Lorre getting pummeled or thrashed around. Fog, revolvers, hard lighting, lots of shadows, and hopefully a good script. That'd be some nice stove top stuffing for a Thanksgiving release, I tells ya. Laters again

    Great trailer!

    by george mcfly

Now this is how you do a movie trailer. We get the basic premise, and introduction to two of their characters, some great insight into the relationship they share, and--that's it. No more. Nothing else about the film. That's PERFECT! Some of you studio folks out there need to note this. Granted, it might be considered a lengthy teaser, but it's a great trailer on its own and we don't need to know anything more about the film. I, for one, am tired of lengthy trailers that give away too much of the plot or big special effects scenes. Give us just a little to entice us, it's all we need. Great job, Disney/Pixar--can't wait til Thanksgiving 2001. McFly<--

    PIXAR's next...

    by prankster

After Monsters, Inc. they're rumoured to be working on The Incredibles, a concept created by and to be directed by Brad Bird, of Iron Giant fame, about a family of superheroes. There was also talk of PIXAR doing a movie with P.T. Anderson and Fiona Apple! (What have you heard about this one, Harry?) So at least they are beginning to stretch into new forms. BTW, I really hate that we don't get a PIXAR film this year because of that monumental turd, "Dinosaur". Like that's supposed to replace it. And did ya notice that Disney still isn't willing to take the blame for it? I was expecting somethign for Monsters Inc saying "From the makers of Toy Story and A Bug's Life"...but no, that would make it too clear who the real talent at Disney is these days.

    Trailer Comparison

    by john bigbooty

Go watch the trailer for Disney's
The Emperor's New Groove and Monster's Inc. Pixar is the clear winner, I have to wonder why they
    hang out with Disney??? Disney's
back in the "dark ages" with it's
crappy characters and it's HORRIBLE direct to video sequels.
What the hell is going on?? Disney
    use to rule.

I was just gonna comment about that remark about the attention span of some movies nowadays..... I have noticed that there seems to be the "death of the long shot" occuring here. I wish I could remember what movie it was..... but it was so damn annoying the way it was edited. I actually counted. NO shot longer than three seconds. It was probably a teen movie anyway.

Emperor's New Groove and Atlantis trailers too...

    by unferth

You can also find the trailers for 'The Emperor's New Groove' (due in December) and 'Atlantis' (due next summer) at Disney's site. 'Emperor' looks like it might actually be somewhat fun instead of mostly painful... 'Atlantis' looks like it could be ultra-cool... or at least a more ambitious entry from the Mouse House than we've seen in years. The trailer makes it look something like a cartoon version of 'Myst', however. ;-) I'll probably see all three of these Disney flicks.

OK, so my post on the Wonder Woman site wasn't exactly informative or helpful or even funny, but I don't give a shit. That one post was better than most of Harry's third grade reading level reviews, the "scoops" that are about 6% true, or father geek's obituaries to people only important to the lowliest of geeks. I truly gotta see this

    by terry_1978

Billy Crystal's character alone had me cracking up here in my collge campus lab(something I better watch in the near future.) Pixar has a history of taking the cutesiest characters and making them seem more on an adult level with their sometimes highbrow comedy. They never stoop to 100% slapstick or corny lines, and it's extremely prominent in this trailer.

Ever play the LucasArts game, "Grim Fandango"? It's basically what you just described, a noir mystery but (and here's the twist) taking place in the Land of the Dead where everyone is a skeleton. Its kind of like a fusion of "Casablanca" and "Beetlejuice". Anyway, you should check it out: its a beautiful game and I highly recommend it. I would personally LOVE to see Pixar (or ILM) create a full length CGI film based on this game's story. If done right, it could be a masterpiece (the game itself already is, IMO).

Alas, as I have heard about the game Grim Fandango I haven't gotten around to it due to the business that is balancing school and working at the same time. I'll be sure to pick it up when I have the time and the bread. It's an older game if I ain't mistaken so, logic serving, it will hopefully not cost an arm and leg I don't have to give. I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion, Mothman. Peace

Gtakeirocks... my rant on your points

    by robin goodfellow

I agree whole heartedly both about the use of the long shot and about the way pop-culture has frighteningly dominated our lives. I guess we're getting what we asked for because much of society seems to accept mediocre entertainment as a substitute for quality. A majority of people will let pop-culture slide and go without judgment because it's pop-culture; as if being part of pop means it doesn't have to be better than mediocre. We accept far too many things that we shouldn't. Why in the hell do Freddie Prince Jr. movies keep getting made? Because for some reason, teenagers accept this kitsch as fruitful entertainment. Do they even actually like this stuff? Not really. But they keep funding it because they think it's part of the entire cool lifestyle of modern American youth. I suppose kids today enamored by this supposedly cool lifestyle think to themselves "Oh look! They're cool! They wear hip clothes, act sassy, listen to popular music with sick beats, and drive bright yellow jeeps around. That's hella phat! I must imitate them and make my life seem more meaningful in the eyes of others because it's the opinions of everyone except myself that counts." I say screw it. Let's look for quality over pop pretense. Stop listening to boy bands just because they are a bunch of pretty boys who dance in ugly sweaters and sing poorly written lyrics. Stop listening to music by jailbait sluts just because they wear clothes so tight you have to worry about the circulation of blood to their extremities. Stop watching MTV all the damn time; it's just Real World-esque shows and the same videos by radio friendly schlock bands these days. We need us some cultural nihilism and fast. Let's at least pretend to care about quality entertainment, please? Enough ranting. Pop-addicted youth, grow up and get disgusted with pretense immediately, I urge you to. And... Monsters Inc is looking pretty good. Me watch trailer again... me laugh again... hehehehe. Funny. Peace

FOr those that do not believe Matrix is playing in the good ol' state of NY. Your wrong, i've seen it and im sorry... ITs cool, its huge. But... it should be bigger... It wasn't full screen. It was like watching a dvd. All letter box and what not. Somwhat dissapointing after they showed about 15 min of a full screen IMAX trailer... Still, ITS MATRIX AND ITS HUGE AND ITS BEEN TRANSFERED TO AN IMAX SOUND SYSTEM AS WELL. If this is not enough to make you go see it. THan you... well your stupid.

Harry is dumb because I don't like the way he writes, whereas I am brilliant and witty. Wait, I'm stupid...but still, not as stupid as Harry! hahaha, I called Harry stupid! I think this site is lame because the rumors aren't true enough. Harry should ask his Genie to make all the rumors in the world true. Wait, then that rumor about me and my aunt would be true. Wait, it IS true! Father Geek does obituaries about people I've never heard of, and that makes me feel even stupider. If I've never heard of someone, no one else cares either. I come here, even though I hate it, because I can't find a single thing better to do in my pathetic, miserable life.

    Grim Fandango the movie

    by mrhappy

Yea! I wanna see GRIM FANDANGO THE MOVIE!!!! Some of the best voice casts i've ever heard!! ILM should make it! Glottis and Manny kicks those two monsters in monsters inc. in the ass any day!! Even though monsters inc looks good, I gotta agree with the people that say those characters are kind of kiddie and obnoxious. And where's the kid? I was hoping to get a glance of how Pixar's CGI kid animation has improved. Now not that I don't like stupid humor, but these two guys just don't match up better than Manny and Glottis. You see, that's what people mean when they say more adult or serious. Glottis was funny without being kiddie and Manny was cool. Also, I want to see FULL THROTTLE, the animated movie. It's all about Corley motors. And if they're gonna make MONKEY ISLAND the movie, stick with the Ron Gilbert design/humor and disassociate yourselves from anything after the second monkey island.
I want to see Pixar make a more serious films and live up to their motto that they never make the same movie twice. Unfortunately, the teaser looks like they have done the same thing. This brings me to what I think is the best animation studio in the world, Studio Ghibli. Studio Ghibli has stuff for kids (without lowering itself to neo Disney kiddie levels) but its also made Princess Mononoke. Any of you guys tired of America's cartoons for kids, try some anime.
But GRIM FANDANGO THE MOVIE WOULD RULEE!!!!! I wanna see cartoon characters in the theater drink and smoke again!!!!!! I wanna see skulls sprouting on the big screen!!!!!! Its time for animation to gain more respect. Ahhhhhh, Gold Flakes.
