For those who didn’t watch the whole J.J. Abrams/Kathleen Kennedy panel from earlier this morning (the entirety of which is available HERE), one of its many, many highlights was the live introduction of BB-8.
BB-8 is the “rollyball droid” we glimpsed in last winter’s FORCE AWAKENS teaser - at which time many assumed it was really good CGI.
A notion which was disproven when it rolled onto the stage in Anaheim this morning…
How was this accomplished? Beats the crap out of me, but I’m sure we’ll find out someday. For the moment, however, let’s chalk it up to some sort of strange and wondrous sorcery - the same sorcery which made a movie called STAR WARS so potent and seductive back in May 1977…
