The Coens won't be in OCEAN'S ELEVEN!

Published at:  Oct 05, 2000 9:16:13 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here.... Remember how cool it was when we all thought that the Wilson brothers were going to pull a BOTTLE ROCKET on OCEANS ELEVEN? Then they dropped out to go make Wes Anderson's THE ROYAL TENNEBAUMS. Then Michael Fleming at Variety dropped the hint that the Coen Brothers might very well be playing the Malloy Brothers in the OCEANS ELEVEN flick coming from Soderbergh. Well... It looks like they are out and the Polish Brothers are in. The Polish Brothers? Yup, remember the really fun and weird flick TWIN FALLS IDAHO? That's them. Personally... I can easily see these two as annoying odd acting brothers. Here's what they look like for those of you that don't know them. This is cool though... they were wonderful in TWIN FALLS IDAHO...

    TWIN FALLS IDAHO

    by *veers*

Superb film, the very fact that the twins even thought of the concept makes them twisted geniuses. There are people in the world that think they actually are conjoined!!!!!

When is this movie supposed to come out anyway? Have they even started filming yet? What's the deal? Inquiring minds want...dammit, I just want to know.

    Coen in a film...

    by iamdeadfish

Well, if you really want to see a coen bro in a film, you can check out "Spies Like Us"! Joel Coen and Sam Raimi play "Drive-In Security" guards! They're in it all of 15 seconds... Raimi didn't even get a line to say. Also, Terry Gilliam plays a doctor, and Frank Oz plays a teacher... I think they were just trying to squeeze as many directors in as they could.

    Isn't this old info?

    by j nasty

Hasn't this info about the Coen's been known for a while? I thought Harry posted this about a week ago. And I also went to the ocean's page at http://www.geocities.com/massive3215 and they said that the polish brothers definately arent in the film. What gives?

    fun

    by mrclean

I am bummed that the Coens are not in the film. That would have been buff. However, having graduated from high school with the Polish's , I wish them the best and hope they do very well. (I didn't know them that well. I had only one class with Mike, but considered them pretty cool and funny guys). I can't imagine Soderbergh not helping their career.

    Coens TV cameo?

    by mocapitator

Didn't the Coens have a cameo in an episode of Northern Exposure?

I can't find anything to back this up though, so I could have dreamt it.

More proof that the Talkbacks are read by all...

    by sabrina

I thought the Polish brothers were a brilliant idea when Veers mentioned them last month -- obviously someone @ "Ocean's 11" reading this board thought so too.
As for me, I'm still reeling from an email I got from (who I'm sure is) John Hawkes after I posted a drooling something to the "Perfect Storm" review Talk Back. But back to the Polish brothers: hope they play up their Latino roots in this one -- this film needs ethnic balance!

    Not true

    by j nasty

I've asked a few people in the know, and now I know the Polish brothers signing on is definately not true. I'd be interested to hear where Harry got this info from. I disagree with Sabrina. I think this is an example of where someone in talkback makes a great suggestion for a character and people read it and start spreading it as if it's true. Just because someone comes up with a great idea doesn't mean it's actually happening. You'll all see soon enough.

The Oleson Twins Have Already Signed.

    by buzz maverik

While robbing the casinos, they'll be looking for a new wife for Ocean who will also be a new mom for them.

Oceans 11, and then Son of Schizopolis, PLEASE!!!!!!

    by cruel shoes

Please Mr. Soderbergh. I beg of you. You have not made a bad film, but you will only be remembered for one film, Schizopolis. All accolades for your other films are merely of the moment. You've tapped into the zeitgeist perfectly but it's time to go back to your true calling, Son of Schizopolis.

    "Eight year olds, Dude."

    by andy travis

Having watched the Coens in interviews and such, I would find it hard to believe they would EVER put themselves in such a high-profile spot in front of the camera. Now, on to O Brother (in the states) and the "Barber Project". And hopefully their "Bob Crane cautionary tale film" at some point before I die...
