A kewl new poster and some images from JURASSIC WORLD!

A bunch of images from JURASSIC WORLD have surfaced today, including the above (unofficial) look at that aquatic themed poster which, it can only be surmised, is a not-that-subtle homage to JP 1 & 2 director Steven Spielberg’s JAWS. Take a look at the other shots below, including a couple more looks at the new gyrospheres that take visitors around the park, some shots of the two central kids (Bryce Dallas Howard’s character’s nephews), and another peek at Vincent D’Onofrio’s dino-hunting baddie.

As silly as it could easily come across, I’m definitely looking forward to getting a better sense of Chris Pratt’s raptor-whispering powers, how about you?

There’s one quote from Colin Trevorrow in Entertainment Weekly regarding a big effects scene involving those gyrospheres that’s a direct callback to the T-rex assault from the first film:

“There’s a ride at the park that allows you to get into a gyroscopic sphere and be out in the wild with dinosaurs and travel beneath them—and that goes horribly wrong. Imagine being inside a sphere and then suddenly it breaks and you’re rolling like a cat with a ball of yarn.” Enter Claire, who morphs into an Ellen Ripley-like heroine to protect her nephews.

Sounds pretty cool. Hammond’s grandkids are easily my least favorite part of the original film, and are the main thing holding it back from my list of all-time Spielberg classics, but hopefully Trevorrow’s cracked that nut and made them (and the parental instincts they inspire) slightly less crucial to the overall narrative this time around…or at least not quite as helpless and annoying.

That big aquatic dino (the Mosasaurus) is easily my favorite thing we’ve seen so far from this flick, so I’m hoping it gets featured in a big way in the final release. They’re certainly teasing as much.

Are you getting a similar sense of wonder from the marketing so far that you got leading up to the summer 1993 release of the original?
