Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin, and My Cocaine are GOING IN STYLE!

Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman shared the screen together (briefly) in NOW YOU SEE ME, but now, the pair (alongside fellow Academy Award-winner Alan Arkin, replacing Dustin Hoffman) will be palling up for the duration of a flick for a remake of 1979’s GOING IN STYLE.

Zach Braff is helming the remake, which will update the story of three old guys who rob a bank to the 21st century. in this version, their pensions are sold away to a foreign entity, which inspires them to try and take their money back from “the man.” They go into production this August in NYC, so I’d expect so see it sometime next year, probably a safe distance away from the June 10th release of NOW YOU SEE ME: THE SECOND ACT (which, again, features both Caine and Freeman)

The original was directed by Martin Brest, and starred Lee Strasberg, Art Carney, and George Burns. It’s well-regarded, but hardly sacred ground; my reservations towards Braff notwithstanding, I’m hoping that Caine, Freeman, and Arkin can provide at least as much banter, nostalgia, and grumpy-old-men codginess as Fisher Stevens’ STAND UP GUYS (which also featured Arkin).

Any fans of the original think that the idea of a remake with these three guys is an abomination?
