Hot off FURIOUS 7, which will soon be the highest grossing film in the franchise's history, James Wan is what every job-security-obsessed studio executive wants. So it makes sense that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is eager to lock Wan down to direct AQUAMAN, starring Jason Momoa and currently being written - separately, like, as two separate scripts - by Will Beall (GANGSTER SQUAD) and Kurt Johnstad (300).
THR says there have been preliminary talks, but there is one hurdle: Universal could exercise an option that would force Wan to return for FAST 8. AQUAMAN is currently set for release on July 27, 2018, and Wan will begin shooting THE CONJURING 2: THE ENFIELD POLTERGEIST this fall, so he's a busy lad. Wan obviously had a rough go on FURIOUS 7, but the fact that he pulled together a film that satisfied both fans and critics could tempt Universal to bring him back. It's early days on both FAST 8 and AQUAMAN right now, but this could get interesting a few months down the road.
